I think they have too tight of a grip on their status as a victim of white oppression, to ever take advantage of such opportunities.

Da-yum...that was well said!!!:clapping: Perspective goes a long way. That's really the bigger picture isn't it.

A few snowflake encounters with their victims/people they treated as nothings wouldn't hurt either.

For a start get rid of the drugs and guns which are the main two components of crime.

What is cowardly is to take my words out context to try and make it seem as though I attempted to justify the cowardly act that was done to this young man. It's basically a punk move.

Maybe. It's certainly criminal and abhorrent. I'm confident the folks who were dumb enough to document their crimes and broadcast that proof to the world will be prosecuted.

I'm not sure I agree it's racism. Hating a someone, even hating someone because of their race, is stupid. But it's not the same as saying that race and all of it's members are inherently inferior to another race.

I'm not sure I disagree either. Some judgement of white people as a whole may be reasonably inferred from the comments made in that video. *shrug*

    rac·ism /rāˌsizəm/
    noun

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Whites, Hispanics, Asians and everyone else have guns and drugs, but they aren't killing each other at nearly the same rates. Why is that?

most of the KKK were poor whites who did lynchings, just because they were victims of the rich does not mean they did not hold a position of power over blacks.

racism in America is less about white oppression and more about greed from the rich, they use it to divide and conquer.

while this was racist we should look higher up for other criminals too.

By that logic, the suburbs should be ablaze with middle-class rioters outraged that they do not drive Bentleys or have butlers and maids. I repeat, the folks in the inner city HAVE winning lottery tickets, they are just convinced that because other people's tickets have higher totals, then their own tickets must be losers.

There are people on public assistance (welfare, WIC, SNAP, Section 8 housing, Medicaid, etc.) who go years, sometimes decades without working, yet neither they nor their kids starve to death. The word for someone who has food and a place to live but does not have to work for it is RICH.

I have taught in public schools in both the inner city and the suburbs. The curricula are the same. The teacher qualifications are the same. The basic facilities and funding are the same. What differentiates them are the students' attitudes, behavior, attendance, and effort. The difference in quality of facilities, equipment, and materials is often a result of the different levels of damage done by the students.

half of the middle class is high from prescription medications to numb the pain from the plague of American only diseases, they are not aware they are being ripped off by the rich.

the other half of America looks at the bottom half and that makes them feel good enough about themselves not to complain.

it is only the lower classes who don't have any lottery tickets and a right to envy in a country that promises equal opportunity. they do not live in a third world country and should not be judged the same as the poor in those countries with no freedom.

If that is what you believe, it's pretty obvious you don't have a clue.

I have taught in public schools in both the inner city and the suburbs. The curricula are the same. The teacher qualifications are the same. The basic facilities and funding are generally the same, though extra funds are often allocated for schools in low-income urban neighborhoods. What differentiates them are the students' attitudes, behavior, attendance, and effort. The difference in quality of facilities, equipment, and materials is often a result of the different levels of damage done by the students. The difference in quality of education is largely due to the differing levels of personal responsibility and engagement by the students. That is not to say there are not lots of fantastic students who achieve phenomenal success in inner city schools. There are many great students who succeed and go on to do great things. There is just a much higher percentage of disruptive knuckleheads in inner city schools than in suburban schools.

Bad neighborhoods are not "bad" because they are "poor", but rather because there is more criminal activity and violence. Unsurprisingly, the behaviors and attitudes that contribute to academic failure are the same ones that contribute to economic failure and criminality:
    - laziness
    - entitlement
    - irresponsibility
    - undependability
    - lack of personal accountability
    - unwillingness to plan ahead and weigh consequences
    - lack of personal self-control
    - unwillingness to delay gratification
    - unwillingness to sacrifice and work for an uncertain (and often undefined) future benefit
    - lack of respect for law, order, and authority
    - unwillingness to cooperate with authority figures

The concentration of these attitudes in the inner city is why crime, poor educational achievement, and poverty correlate so strongly. People do not commit crimes because they are "poor" and they certainly do not fail because of race. Blacks and Hispanics in the suburbs achieve academic and economic success at comparable rates to Whites and Asians.

It seems to be a cultural problem, exacerbated by a sort of social natural selection of neighborhood populations. Think of it as two groups: those who stay in poor and crime-ridden neighborhoods and those who do what is required to achieve the level of success that moves them into the middle-class, and enables them to move out of crime-ridden neighborhoods and into the suburbs.

The first group engages in economically self-destructive behaviors like not attending school regularly, disrupting class, dropping out, doing drugs, committing crimes, and having kids out of wedlock and before achieving economic stability. These people do not generally achieve great economic success, are often on pubic assistance or in prison, and tend to raise kids who tend to make at least some of the same disadvantageous choices, and therefore tend to remain "poor". These are the people whose choices perennially keep them in the American concept of "poverty" for the entirety of their lives.

The second group are those who put forth the time and effort to succeed in school, and who stay out of jail, off of drugs, and who do not become parents before starting careers and getting married. They tend to end up joining the middle-class, moving to the suburbs, and teaching their kids the values, behaviors, and attitudes that enabled them to be successful. The ideal exemplar of this is Ben Carson.

The tendency of people to leave bad neighborhoods when they can removes that pool of people with academically, socially, and economically useful traits, and leaves a dominant culture of entitled laziness and irresponsibility which does so much damage to the effectiveness of inner city schools, and raises the crime rate and "poverty" rate. This correlates with a concentration of poverty in inner cities, not because success in the inner city is at all rare, but because the exodus of successful and responsible people leaves a higher concentration of failures and criminals.

PS: Commas and apostrophes are signs of respect for yourself, for others, and for your ideas.

Okay. How do you propose to do that?

If you were trying to address my point, I am afraid I missed most of it.

I did get that you think that the middle-class copes by doing drugs and comparing themselves to the lower class.

So, why don't the lower class people cope by doing drugs and comparing themselves to people in a third world country?

There are lots of different concepts of superior/inferior, many of which include moral judgments.

For example, I think most on this site consider non-racists to be morally or intellectually superior to racists. That makes it a racist statement to assume or generalize that (all/most) White people are racist.

A belief that many people of a race have an opinion, is not an assertion that being of that race makes someone inferior. The deficiency (of morals or opinion) some may believe exists isn't a result of the qualities that define members of that race. If it was, there would be no exceptions.

Coincidence, even correlation, is not cause. The cause of the deficiency is something else.

Because the activities that are allowed to go in poor black neighborhoods are not allowed to go on in white neighborhoods.

Asians keep low profiles to keep the cops out of their affairs.

When you want drugs, guns, prostitutes, etc. where do you go?
