Beyond that, I think its a fine idea, if we replace the 'mandatory' with an enticing incentive program that will virtually guarantee participation. There is a severe lack of work ethic, sense of responsibility and structure growing in society and I think this would be a good way of repairing that.

2. Do you have any idea how difficult it would be to support that many troops in Alaska? We don't have the bases for it for one.

 

So really no aircraft carrier for 2 out of every 5 years.

 

I think one reason that the US doesn't have mandatory military service is that too many young men know that the US is the bad guy and don't want to participate.

They have to keep the ones who still think the US is the good guy seperate from those that know the US is the bad guy. If they simply drafted everybody indiscriminately, the informed one and the brainwashed ones would by mixed. The informed ones would inform the brainwashed ones and then the government would have an army of soldiers that didn't approve of the war in which they were ordered to fight. It would be a disaster.
