Well, it seems that mandatory sentencing already exists in Australia, so perhaps theres no need to even introduce this thread...
Perhaps some posters should look up the definition of :felony" and the definition of "misdemeanour"
My argument for mandatory sentencing has always centred around a penalty for a felony,
not a misdemeanour. Any legislation which imposes a gaol sentence for a misdemeanour, even with a three strike factor is in my opinion bad legislation, and is in fact repugnant.
The NT legislation seems directed at controlling indigenous youth..which is in fact racist..

Cant see any provision for sentencing an offender to 15 years imprisonment for stealing a packet of biscuits...perhaps someone can enlighten me on this case and let me know the name and year it was before the court.

You have confused Australia with the USA, we do not have felonies or misdemeanors, I would have thought someone who has hung around the legal system for 40 years would know that we have indictable offences and summary offences.

    Maybe stop watching American movies.

Sorry no mitigation in my court, but there is no mitigating circumstances, you were just wrong. You are pleading for leniency based on your past record and age.
