This is the reality. Maybe it's time to start thinking?
Ahead of the deteriorating economic situation in the world. And by the way, pay attention to Russia. Start the destruction of cooperation with Russia, could only an idiot. Because only an idiot can think that you can impose some kind of sanctions against Russia, try to isolate it and so on. You look at the map. Only an idiot can think that Russia, the largest country in the world, with the most powerful nuclear component can be frightened or isolated.

However, we are talking about poverty.
Many in this forum are constantly talking about US GDP. And proud of it. But, as I said earlier, GDP is a false figure calculated for idiots. Consider why, for example, in Russia there are less poor than in the USA?
It's all about purchasing power parity.

What do you think of it?

It's very simple really - in mother Russia when you are out of food, you go to the Taiga and hunt some dear, rabbit or what have you. The Taiga is vast and can provide for everyone. No food stamps required. ;)
The same goes for heating - plenty of wood in the Taiga. :)

Chasing a high GDP is what got the Chinese economy into the mess it currently is...high levels of government spending to boost growth... the result astronomical amount of debt and ghost cities that will haunt them for a long time.

$1.90 a day... wow...truth is I'm not sure I'll be any good at hunting rabbits...I enjoy nature but like to admire instead

You Russians need to learn to tell better fairy tales.

    0.00000% ??

    Come on man....

This as the EU is laughing about what a ridiculously high number of Russians are leaving Russia.

There is simply too much money in Russia, they can’t handle it and need to emigrate, it’s all so clear!

    Please
    What is poverty?

I figure if you have shelter, sustenance and medical care, no poverty.

    This is amusing.

"Poor Americans" own three cars and have all of the latest electronics. It's possible to sit at home and collect over $40,000 in government benefits.

We don't have children covered in flies with distended bellies.

37.9 million Americans in poverty as of 2017 (it's trending down which is good). The line that defines poverty is 22K for a family of 4.

Any map that shows Argentina as better off than the U.S. is not credible. Doug posted that the level for poverty in the U.S. is $22,000 for a family of four. I'm not sure that is correct (it probably is), but let's go with it.

According to the map, Argentina has a lower percentage of its population living in poverty than we have here. I suspect each country uses their own definition of poverty. It's likely Argentina defines poverty at a level equal to $12,000 or $16,000 American dollars.

    Apples and oranges.

I used the US government and US Census data.

For Argentina vs. USA I think the difference is that perhaps dire poverty doesn't exist in Argentina. Better safety nets perhaps? I'm not really familiar with Argentina so hard to say.

Two countries I'm very familiar with are China and India, countries I've worked in. China doesn't have dire poverty - people even in poorer rural areas are able to feed themselves. But India has shockingly destitute people, and lots of them. That explains the difference between those two countries.

I have a hard time believing Jordan, Iran, Algeria, and Argentina have a higher percentage of their population earning above $22,000 (in their equivalent of American dollars) than we do.

The maps shows percentage of people living on less than $1.90 per day.
Can you imagine anyone in the US making it on $60 per month? That map is hilarious!

Pockets of the U.S. have Third World-style poverty.

What that means is that 3.9 million people in the US are living in extreme poverty. Is that possible?

Being in a wealthy country carries higher costs of living.
I was just watching a video about a man who took an adventurous trip to the Northeast part of India, an area rarely trodden by foreign tourists, and he bought a meal with 10 different little curries and chutneys, served on a banana leaf, for what turned out to be the equivalent of $1.50, and that included a plastic bottle of water.

In places like New York City or the San Francisco Bay Area we see people who are "housing poor". The amount of money they earn would otherwise be considered very decent in another part of the country, but with entry level apartments starting at $2000 a month, they struggle to be able to afford housing, and don't have much money left over after paying housing costs.

It’s impossible to survive in the US on $60 per month. The map is bovine excrement.

Argentina is somewhere in between a First World and Second World country. The standards of living for much of the population are a little lower, somewhat like Portugal or Italy. Some may or may not find this relevant, but Argentina has the largest percentage of whites of any Latin American country.

All points to what you are acclimated to. For example, below is the average monthly income in Russia (the place that has no poverty). That amounts to $3,492 annually. 22K in US = poverty, 3.5K in Russia = normal.

Average Monthly Income in Russia USD 291

Does that include illegals? If so, they could make up 1/3 of that number.
