How do you feel about the federal government micromanaging the lives of citizens?

It is amazing how this is still debated. A plant that grows so easily and needs no transformation for enjoyment almost exclusively by humans would seem to be an obvious gift from nature. One cannot overdose. Bizarre reactions to it are less common than those to sugar. Dependence is entirely psychological and less important than that on sex (or any number of things, including money).
The "losers" are those who seek to deny a simple pleasure, that they do not like, to everyone else. Hogwash!

He is not showing a trend. He is using deceptive statistics. You notice he was comparing Colorado statistics to national statistics. Colorado has been above the national average for as long as they have been keeping track of such things. Legalization made little difference. People are just more out in the open about it, now that it is legal. By the way, it was decriminalized in the early 70's. If you got caught with an ounce or less, the maximum penalty was $100. And it was not a criminal offence. Just a violation.

There is a lot more to a Colorado high than just sitting atop some of the highest mountains in the land.

When I was a teenager, coming of age in Colorado, hitting the party circuit, I noticed a curious trend. At those parties where alcohol was served, that it was not all that uncommon to see the party end with fights, vomiting, car crashes, and other such destructive results. At those parties where people sat around passing a joint, things were so much more relaxed, more pleasant. Plus, it seemed making out with a girl was a lot more fun high on pot, than when drunk.

I gave you a like not because I'm against the use or legalization but I'm with the poster below and the ease it is for minors to get now..

Then considering I just took a big ol riff off my Yocan, I'm declaring I'm DQ'd from any further input on this subject ;)

Of the people one sees, passed out on the side of the road, laying in the gutter, they are almost always either an alcoholic or heroin addict. Once they reach a certain point, there is little difference in their behavior.

Your supposed data to prove your point is all from before legalization. It was voted on in 2012, and did not become legal until 2014. What you have shown is that marijuana usage in Colorado has always been higher than average. It is part of the culture. Perhaps not the part of the culture you participate in, but nonetheless, it has long been part of the Colorado culture.

    Not the point
The drug causes brain and lung damage and most who take it end up on welfare

Given the benefits provided with respect to pain relief, sleep disorders, and just plain relaxation, I am of the opinion that the laws need to be changed. We spend far to much time and money chasing this drug around and accomplish nothing. Smart states have figured this out. Too many have not.
This is coming from a conservative that is just right of Attila the Hun.

The Heritage Foundation isn’t exactly unbiased, and the source of these stats you quote it seems to me is even more biased.

Here’s a link to their latest report, down to 71 pages from their 2014 report.

    https://rmhidta.org/files/D2DF/FINAL-Volume6.pdf

Seems like several of these statistics are in need of explaining the methodology. How for example are data available to determine what percent of the population has used marijuana in the past month?

You don't - you want to make laws based on "Utilitarian" justification for law - regardless of whether you realize that this is what you are doing or not.

Your justification for why you want Pot to be illegal is because there is a risk of harm. This is a "harm reduction" argument "What is will increase happiness for the collective" - with no consideration for individual liberty - which is one of the reasons why such arguments are an anathema to the founding principles.

What about the rights of the individual - you have not mentioned them ? Utilitarianism is about what will increase happiness for the "collective" it has no regard for the rights of the individual.

Through 12 years of school we manage not to teach kids the founding principles - so very few people these days know what the difference between legitimate and illegitimate Gov't authority - as per those principles.

Utilitarianism is a plague - so most people think it is normal - and acceptable to use such arguments.

As for the rule of Law - I gave you examples of you wanting to violate some rule of law principles.

Can you provide a link to credible factual data proving both claims?
