    I've always tipped hotel maids.

Oh wait... that reminder must've been directed at liberals.

Well, lets just say I don't stay at the Days Inn when I travel.

They are not "maids", they're "house keeping staff".

And so when every one is given their big pay raise and the prices on everything affected goes up, the "poverty" line goes up and the same people still end up on the assistance.

    Great strategy.

Try to remember that the next time you stay in a hotel and the maid rips you off. :roflol:

Have stayed in hotels many, many times. Do it semi-regularly for my job...have never been ripped off. Then again, I also don't leave things worth ripping off laying around in the room when I'm not there.

    Nice try though.

If the cleanliness of the room is good, then by all means tip the maid. She is making your stay more comfortable and deserves a praise in the way of a tip. I can't believe anyone would object to leaving a tip. Only in Huffpo. If a liberal owned the hotel not a peep would be uttered.

I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there who wish they had the good luck as you enjoy with the hotels/maids.

Same here, even the laptop goes into the trunk of a rental car when not in use.

I recvd flowers for my bday last week while I was out of town. Since I was flying back, the 'housekeepers' not only got a nice tip, they got flowers to take home, too.

I can think of worse jobs to have.

    Like working for HuffPo.

Lol. If I don't get ripped off because there is nothing in the room to rip off...how is that "luck"?

Please, do yourself a favor and stop posting stupid arguments, you only make yourself look bad.

Are hotel maids getting paid the same as a waitress? If so, then tip. If not, then why should I? They are getting paid to do the job of making my stay more comfortable.

Tell you what champ, why don't you just stop responding to my "stupid arguments"; that way you won't be helping the process. Worry about yourself and not about whether or not i make myself look bad ok?

It isn't the fault of the left that even the religious right seems more willing to indulge the moral turpitude of bearing false witness to our own laws, while trying to establish confidence in the sincerity of their Faith.

I'd venture to guess that leaving a note in a hotel room asking guests to tip maids is probably the best way to ensure that maids will make less in tips.

SECOND THOUGHT- The hotel business does, however, deal with a lot people who may not be all that familiar with the custom of tipping.

    :roflol:...you're good....really good.

I was recently on a business trip and stayed at decent resort. Tipped the housekeeping staff daily. If I needed something I'd leave them a note by the tip and BOOM, when I returned it was waiting for me. Service was so good I left the housekeepers a note and fine bottle of wine when I left. The reason.....I was once doing work at that level and know how far a little appreciation goes when it comes from the people you're serving (which is true no matter what you do). Yea, maybe I get a bit excessive, but I have soft spot for people who are working hard, doing jobs most people wouldn't do, providing great service and who often don't receive due appreciation from the folks they serve.

I've seen these notes. They (*)(*)(*)(*) me off. Not because I'm reluctant to tip, but that the only reason these notes would be popping up is because so many people don't tip. I mean really, if someone can fork out the money for hotel room, is leaving a few dollars for the housekeepers who have to clean up your mess to much to ask. Come on!

I edited that post because, on second thought, a lot of people who stay at hotels are not all that familiar with the custom of tipping. My father-in-law was from Japan, where there is no custom of tipping. He always felt very awkward about it, was never sure who he was supposed to tip and who not. Such notes may be very helpful for such people.

Totally agree. You never have to worry about running out of towels or amenities. My mom had to make a living as a waitress one time and she taught me how important it is to tip service people if you can. Not like it's a big expense. Just a couple of bucks a day on your pillow is sufficient unless you make a big mess. Here's a pic of the 'tips' the ladies got from me last week. ;)

Except for the hunk of b'day cake of course. *burp*

I do it because it will make someone's day a little brighter. Hey, you don't have to tip but I am betting a waitress gets more money in the end that a hotel maid. It will be a fact now that Huffpo took up the rant, fewer maids will get tips.

It never hurts to show your appreciation to someone who works hard to make things nice for others.
