Texas GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert who was one of the committee grilling Barr yesterday, and a mask wearing refuser, was tested POSITIVE for Covid yesterday in the White House, as he was supposed to fly to Texas with the president. After testing POSITIVE he inexplicably returned to his Capitol Hill office to inform his staff in person, now doubt still unmasked. Dumb as a box of rocks!!!!

Barr will now be tested for Covid following his contact with Gohmert.

Seems bizarre he wouldn't don one if he insisted on telling his staff in person.

Masks do not prevent someone from getting Covid-19.

    But not promoting pseudoscience does.

I'm assuming, BTW, you meant "the wearer". Masks can prevent "someone" from getting Covid-19

He caught Covid-19. It would not have made any difference whether he was wearing a mask or not.

I wear a mask. However, it will not prevent me from catching Covid-19.

Widespread use slows the spread. I'm sorry that medical facts are inconvenient for your political agenda. God forbid our health and safety be more important than blind worship of the Dear Leader.

What the country needs is to contract it like any other flu and get on with life or death, hiding from it solves nothing! Well at least for those not participating in bringing down the U.S. and bankrupting millions of homeowners and displaced workers..

And trying to hide from a virus is not pseudoscience, or is it moronic belief, it's hard to tell anymore ;)

I wear a mask because it helps stop the spread. However, as I have said, wearing a mask will not prevent me from catching it and it would not have stopped the congressman from catching it.

Not true! We don't know that it would have made no difference. It could have motivated whoever gave it to him to wear a mask, or to not come near him.

Not in my experience. I can wear a mask all day long and I doubt that it will change anyone's mind. As far as social distancing, I do not depend on other people. My responsibility.

Maybe hard for you. For those of us who have looked at the scientific evidence it's completely clear.

If both the congressman and the person who spread it to him had been wearing masks, then yes, it would have significantly reduced his likelihood of catching the virus.

There isn't proof he didn't, OP just wants you to think that "now doubt still unmasked"

The key word is "if". Unfortunately like everything else, wearing a mask has become political. Somewhat like calling a riot, peaceful protesting.

Yes, anti-maskers have tried making health political. The only "if" in my previous comment was "if" people accept medical facts. I realize that some Trump supporters won't. That goes without saying.

How many times has the flu caused hospitals to be near or at capacity?

At least 56 intensive care units in Florida hospitals reached capacity on Tuesday, state officials said. Another 35 hospitals show ICU bed availability of 10% or less, according to the Agency for Health Care Administration in that state.
In California, the number of hospitalizations across the state were at an all-time high
Houston hospitals are treating COVID-19 patients in their emergency rooms as they wait for additional intensive care beds to open, and hospital staff have told emergency responders that they can’t accept new patients safely, the news outlets reported. A dozen of the city’s emergency departments have hit or neared capacity about three times as often as compared to the same time in 2019, and hospitals have diverted patients to other hospitals outside of Houston.
Arizona hospitals are reaching capacity as well, and some have sent patients to other states.
Abrazo Health in Phoenix has ordered refrigerated storage for overflow as morgues reach capacity, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is also acquiring coolers and extra staff since the office is “currently near capacity for body storage,” the office told the news station.
The five largest hospitals in Mississippi ran out of ICU beds last week due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, according to the Associated Press.

What is the highest amount of flu related deaths in the US in a given flu season? Wasn't it about 80K?
What are we at now with COVID related deaths? 152K?

Now...I'm not saying we should "hide" from anything. But this clearly isn't like "any other flu"

I guess only time will tell if any of his staffers come down with it. And, who knows if they were wearing masks? Notwithstanding all the debate about their effectiveness, I think it's important for public figures to lead by example for whatever the latest recommendations are. Right now, it's that masks are helpful. How are we supposed to have hope that things are heading in the right direction when our own leaders play "Do as I say, not as I do."?

Science, lolol.. So tell us Golem, what year was the first cure for virus discovered? Now that would be logical science and not some ridiculous theory like "Hiding in your house and behind a mask" :)

Oh BTW I see Tokyo thought they had it licked with the mask and now they are on fire once again. One other fact of science, they now have determined that people over six feet tall are 2X more likely to contract COVID then shorter people.. SO now what the plan for those poor folks LMFAO..

The suckers will fall for any and everything today :)

Just the claim that the wearer is not protected is not all that clear. I was assigned to Japan in the early 1960s. Many, if not most Japanese wore masks. They did it because they thought it protected them. "Science" tends to be illusive and is not always correct.

Personally, I believe masks provides some protection to the wearer. But, the so called "science" says it doesn't.

Certainly nothing is definite. Wearing a mask will not necessarily keep you from catching Covid-19 and wearing a mask will not necessarily keep you from transmitting Covid-19. It likely reduces the chances both directions.

I dunno, when was the last time entire populations were stupid enough to think quarantining would eradicate a virus  All the cases here lately are so mild mine workers haven't even had to take sick leave let alone extended time off..

Again, the main claim here is is that both parties wearing a mask reduces transmission. That's the primary claim.

So does that make them immune or just prolong the inevitable, what's the end game for this stupid scenario?

Lets talk about the "science", a word that is thrown around very loosely.

When this first started, there was a lot of discussion about how long the virus lasted on various surfaces. This surface lasted this long and that surface lasted that long. That was all "science" and people including us would leave a package outside for twenty four hours. . Since then "science" has discovered that it is almost all transmitted through the air.

Tomorrow, there will likely be a new "science".
