My father had open heart surgery yesterday. Triple bypass, valve replacement and a maze procedure. He is 86 years old and so far doing fine. Like they say prevention is the best cure and for sure like most people, the old man didn't pay it much attention to it. Neither did I for that matter before I got my own stent. He is at the Munk Cardiac Centre in Toronto General. We were with him during most of the pre-op procedures and that was a real education and I can't say enough about the quality of care for him and the consideration afforded the families. Say what you will about "socialized" medicine, but we are damn glad of it in our family.
