McDonald's Worker Says She Was Required to Receive Pay on Fee-Laden Debit Card

    If McDonalds tried that stunt in Australia the media would have a field day and McDonalds would be shown the door.

    McDonalds is a franchise. That means stores are owned by individuals, not by the McDonalds corporation. Some owners have multiple stores, but that's not always the case. It's up to the owners to manage the financial affairs, not the corporation which licenses the franchises.

    Employers can't pay their workers into debit accounts for example. It's just not done, but into savings accounts or cheque accounts. But it's quite OK to have that savings account linked to a debit card.


    There was a stink some years ago when one of the large department stores gave employees store branded debit cards for their bonuses.
