The movie The Quiet Earth (1985) has a deeper meaning, and it has to do with the state of current world and the state of emotion in less and less people time moves forward. Because when chaos is increasing in the heads of more people, in the end only a few people will remain in the old state of order (it can even be one person), and for them the world won't hear them.
Jesus Christ must have witnessed the same situation over 2000 years ago, only he or a few must have remained in a different state of emotion than the majority, mainly in the cities, more crowded, they copy eachother's emotions sooner and faster, start to become different, like an infomation virus) This is why JC saw the things different, talked different, thought different, but in the end he was the one that was right (as history shows) Exactly the same is happening again, and the move The Quiet Earth shows this (hidden) (operation 'flashlight' in the movie means television/media. A more accurate name would be operation 'infoflash', that new information has hammered into the minds of billions over the last decades and by that has changed the world, increased the chaos (chatter, communication)
And chaos need to be stalled and remained in state of balance, because too much out of balance and it can lead to new order (most people deep in mind want natural order even when they love cities or the society) You can end an infowar, but not sudden, only slowly, because when you should stop it abruptly you can fall to order, sudden impacts are like shockwaves through society, can bring it out of balance too rapid and too much.
The Quiet Earth, how 'quiet' is the Earth at this moment? A society can only start to understand what it is itself (a communicating interacting system) and remaining a certain state, even a chaotic one. Because to rapid change in emotional state would mean a shockwave of change, and you don't want that, a society can only change slowly (actually heal from the chaos slowly, but it will never be the same as it ever was (as long as people are dependent on a big system a small powerful group will gain power) At the moment populations started to grow in the world (thousands of years ago) the trouble started, the same type of history repeated on and on, until today.

I had forgotten that movie, but yeah I remember it. It was a great movie. I'm not sure about that "deeper meaning" explanation though.
