Turnbull's smile is a rictus, as Trump discusses domestic politics while meeting wth PM.

Yeah, Trump would be hard to take serious. Maybe he is anxiously waiting on a faux pas uncomfortability

I bet Mal is gritting his teeth. Mind you he would also be a little jealous because HE has had to declare all financial interests whereas Trump....

No, I don't think he is jealous because of that. I think it maybe because Trump has support for policy that promotes self-interest and Trundill cannot.

In all seriousness, this meeting is rather pretentious on the part of both. Obviously, Trump felt the need to impress his superior standing and power over Turnbull. Turnbull thinks this meeting will help increase the impression if his Prime minister in co-operation with President on many policy as previous Australian leaders have done. What a failure for Turnbull now left to face the electorate on his own merits which have been found seriously lacking.

Shorten would be celebrating behind closed doors for the fact it would appear the PM seems to be in over his head. The fact is, the only person in Australian politics liked less at the moment is Shorten, so celebrations could be too soon.

Turnbull moves from one ship wreck to another, if he is to be re-elected he might have to listen to somebody else for a change. I doubt he can save his leadership.

I feel sorry for Turnbull having to turn up to support ANZUS when Trump seems to have very few ideas about Australia except that we are trying to foist ME refugees on to the US.

No. the smarmy git should have expected this, so his desperate dash to the US to try and gather some support has just backfired. When any politician races off to other world leaders to try garner popularity, my sympathies just fade away.

We know that the deal with the US on immigrants is by far more advantages to the US than Australia which is why after the synonymous phone call it took almost a week for anything to be said even though the deal was forefront in the public eye at the time. Since the price of the deal was not mentioned and appeared to be ignored Trump felt he could gain political capital on Turnbull.

Fact is, this one deal you point too, would tell anybody with just a few brain cells to rub together, ANY interaction with Trump administration will be destine for ridicule and could very well be detrimental to Australian interest. SO one really does wonder, just why Turnbull rushed over to be slighted by Trump???

No, don’t feel sorry for the stupid, no matter how you looked at this it was not going to end well…

Why do you think it's to the US advantage? They are getting Muslims and we are getting the MS13 gangbangers?

Well, if you consider the nationality or intentions then you are making the value subjective. For example, here you point out Muslim compared to gangbangers and the possible connotation is that the Muslim is worse, others will say different. Not to suggest any bias or bigotry.

The fact is you are not talking one to one exchange, so the country gaining the highest numbers of whom are not considered to be refugees, would be the disadvantage, would you not think??? Since the US are getting rid of unwanted failed asylum seekers for the asylum seekers who paid illegal operations to get them to the country of their choice and the stipulation is they meet strict US processing even though they are already found to be asylum seekers of one description or another again, US benefits. Also, the deal is predicated on the US accepting the status of the Australian side while taking the numbers on a whole from the US. No matter how you look at this deal, US is at advantage and the megalomaniac has actually been able to score political points over that advantageous deal for them…
