Early today I discovered that Marianne Williamson, the renowned meta-physician & spiritual teacher, is running for the Democratic nomination for President of the U.S. I watched several interviews of her & found myself in total agreement with what she was saying. I felt far more comfortable with her views than ANYONE else currently running or thinking of running. I am so excited with her I wanted to recommend to all who read this to take a few moments to watch interviews of her & evaluate her answers for yourself. I hope you find them as interesting & exciting as I did. I am submitting this link as a potential starting point. Best wishes to all of you.

Meaningless platitudes is no qualification for nor a means of governing.

Wow her platform is like an exact copy and paste of what being a democrat supposedly is.

She has zero original ideas at all and I just read through it all.

She is parroting all of the main democratic themes without giving any specifics.

I call this a generic campaign.

What policy in particular attracts you to her?

All I heard was "we need to discuss" and then the normal laundry list of things with a means to achieve them.

She said every dollar we spend on childhood education is an investment in the economy. False Headstart the premier early childhood education program is a total waste of tax payer dollars. It is just more bromides and platitudes.

Isn't Oprah one of her gurupies? She wants people to 'feel right inside'. She is less qualified than tRump.

    1. There are two overall generalized ideas that pervades Marianne's policies that I like very much. One is her approach to peace. It's pro-active, and it focuses on pursuing peace rather than focusing on elements of self-defense. Self-defense isn't ignored, but the emphasis is on making peace--with everyone. A very wise man once said, "Peace never comes from hating war. Peace comes from loving peace." Marianne knows this truth. The second overall thing I like about Marianne is her determination to include us all in the solutions, leaving no one out. All her policies are based on positive approaches, seeking positive outcomes that have something for everyone involved. Her approach is thru more cooperation among us all rather than this constant, destructive competition that creates far more losers than winners. Marianne is interested in making all of us in America winners, along with America itself. I like the incredibly positive approach she has toward changing America. I agree with her on every issue. I don't feel that way with ANY OTHER CANDIDATE.

Take a look at her website at: Mariannewilliamson2020.com

Sorry, I thoughtlessly hit the post button before finishing my last response to your post.
    2. During the last six years of the Obama administration, Republicans gradually shut down Congressional discussion of America's most contested issues, and nothing got resolved. In the first two years of Trump's administration, the President joined leaders of both Houses of Congress in shutting off all open discussion of those important issues. There was some continuing discussion on news media & other sources, but Paul Ryan & Mitch McConnell, both were relentless in preventing open dialogue on important issues in the Congress, while Trump himself NEVER allowed discussions of views opposing his own on anything. There has been no concerted effort to resolve conflicts or find common ground by Republicans for years, and Trump acts like an authoritarian leader who dictates his views, imposing them on everyone around, while making a federal case against anyone who voices opposition or even an alternative view. Since no issue can be resolved in a democracy without first having vigorous, open debate coupled with inevitable compromise, we've been stuck in governmental action limbo for years. Marianne is absolutely right when she says "we need to discuss"--EVERYTHING. We need to change our combative attitudes toward each other, and remember & respect the fact that we're ALL AMERICANS, and we ALL need the solutions to these issues equally, because the issues & the solutions affect us all.
    3. No dollar spent on good, effective education is ever WASTED.

The Republicans were always willing to sit down and discuss issues and reach agreements. Obama and the Democrats were the ones who kept saying elections have consequences and you lost. Trump has always been willing to sit down and negotiate issues but as we saw in the government shutdowns not only are the Democrats unwilling to negotiate issues they have no intention of trying to address the problems our country faces.

Not what she said and as we see with Headstart they are more than willing to waste dollars on bad ineffective "education" just so they can say LOOK WHAT WE FUNDED and then attack anyone who would suggest defunding bad ineffective education spending.

    1. To claim Trump is willing to discuss issues with opponents that he has strong personal opinions on, is simply not true. In the case of the government shutdown, Both the House & Senate passed an appropriations bill giving Trump 1.5 billion dollars for border security upgrades, but not the wall. Trump vetoed the entire bill, forcing a government closure because the bill didn't include the 5.7 billion he wanted for the wall. On several occasions, Trump has suddenly & unexpectedly walked out on sensitive negotiations related to trade agreements or political issues. Trump is an authoritarian, who likes to be be boss & doesn't work well with others. I see little to zero evidence Trump is willing to "negotiate" with anyone about anything he has strong feelings about.

I've also noticed that conservative Republicans have become increasingly ideological, increasingly extreme in their views, and increasingly resistant to compromise since 2010. I don't find that disturbing because I disagree with them, but because that ever increasing intransigence has effectively killed our federal government's ability to get anything of substance done. Except for anarchists, even hard core conservatives will admit we need government to be functional for a variety of important needs. Trump himself seemed completely willing to allow every program, department or work already in process, lapse or even die, as a price worth paying to get his wall. That kind of obsessive behavior is NOT healthy for this country--or ANY country. Trump & his Republican henchmen care more about winning each miserly battle than they care about how the ramifications of their "wins" will ultimately impact the nation & its people. They are NOT my kind of leadership.

The government shutdown is a prime example of him offering and the Democrats refusing. Go back to his invitation for Pelosi and Schummer to the White House to try and find middle ground and what did they do put refuse to budge and turn all this kids and familes into political pawns so they could force the shutdown.

And some examples? We only finally got budgets during Obama's years because Republicans passed budgets and negotiated. The Democrats never would. Republicans tried to offer amendments and discuss and negotiate healthcare and were told to take hike.

And he did nothing of the sort, he tried to get Democrats to negotiate and legislate and do their jobs but the prefer to play political games and engage in their political vindictiveness instead of actually doing something to fix the problems we face.

I looked at her website -- and appreciated that she was raised in Houston in the 1950s, just as I was, although I'm ten years ahead of her. She seems like a nice person. I didn't see much in the way of concrete policies, however -- although maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Is she is favor of retaining a strong military? Keeping nuclear weapons?

    1. What exactly do you think Trump offered Democrats to avoid the government shutdown? You say Democrats refuse to work with Republicans, but in Dec 2018, the U.S. Senate voted unanimously to pass the appropriations bill--that means Democrats & Republicans working together without one single vote in opposition, to give the President that appropriations bill. Trump has already agreed to accept it, & had told McConnell that, but after the bill passed & Trump watched Ann Coulter ring him a new one, he decided to veto it. How does such behavior measure up to the qualities you ascribe to Trump?
    2. During the Obama years, Republicans treated Democrats like plague victims, avoiding them at all cost. Democrats were't permitted to submit bills for consideration, and Republicans developed their own appropriations bills to comply with their list of priorities. Republicans voted 70 times in the House to repeal Obamacare, and NEVER talked to Democrats, or offered to, for the purpose of replacing Obamacare with a workable system that would cover all those covered by Obamacare.
    3. Trump doesn't know the meaning of "negotiate." To him it means simply giving him whatever he wants with him giving nothing in return. Many supporters voted for him because of that intense rejection of compromise in him. But a democracy survives on compromise, and stagnates or disintegrates without it. Our nation is a good example of that stagnation right now. Until & unless we learn again how to find common ground & compromise in a positive, healthy way, this country will continue its rapid decline. Trump & his supporters' affinity toward autocratic rule will do nothing to help this situation. Democracy can't thrive on absolutist rule. If Democrats were "vindictive" the way you suggest, they'd be doing everything possible to impeach Trump, but most of them have publicly rejected that course of action. Democrats want to get Trump out of power, but do that by winning the next election.

I want to read all the issues on her website, but haven't had the time yet. I can't answer your questions directly at this point, but will try to get back to you on it. But, I DO know she wants to change the emphasis of our politics from focusing on self-defense and senseless brinkmanship, to a clear, intense, devoted pursuit of real, lasting peace with EVERYONE. Life gives us what we concentrate on. If we concentrate on weaponry & self-defense measures instead of peace, life will give us war & the threat of war. If we want peace we have to concentrate on peace, intensely & intentionally, making it the central focus of our consciousness. And then, life will give us peace. Marianne knows this truth, and wants to apply it from the Oval Office. I strongly support that.

Hmmm... no one knows the future, but we do have some knowledge of the past.

So let's transport Marianne Williams back to, say, 1936. Hitler is re-arming rapidly. The Japanese are rampaging through China. Italy has invaded Ethiopia. The democratically-elected government of Spain is waging a desperate war against fascist generals who have risen against it, and who will overthrow it within three years, with hundreds of thousands of executions.

America isn't paying much attention to it all. In Britain, the Left is denouncing the Conservative government for its feeble re-armament attempts, and organizing mass marches under slogans like 'Down with War and Fascism'.

In retrospect, I think the democracies should have been arming themselves as fast as possible. War with the Nazis and Japanese militarists was looming.

But what would Ms Williams have said then?

Marianne Williams isn't proposing pacifism. She's saying we've all been stuck in this tit-for-tat behavior for too long to contemplate, and we can change that. M. Williamson knows that life gives us whatever we concentrate on, and historically leaders have concentrated on conflict. So, life has given us conflict. M. Williamson wants to concentrate on making & maintaining peace--NOT from the normal self-defense perspective, but from a new, genuine conviction that peace is both desirable and attainable for the long term, by convincing EVERYONE, wherever they live, to join in that intent & focus on peace without conflict. It's more than a change of policy. It's a completely new change of attitude & focus & intent. And, it's totally POSITIVE, for everyone involved. It's a new paradigm, that has the potential of changing both history & humanity in extremely positive ways. Most humans are tired of the same-old, redundant, conflict ridden political scene. They want change, but are lost as to how to make that change. Marianne Williamson is offering a legitimate, workable answer to that dilemma.

Of course, this is only one of the areas M. Williamson would change, but the neat thing is she comes at everything from that same intensely positive approach, which I think this world desperately needs right now--particularly after the conflict-prone, destructive time of Trump.

What you call "meaningless platitudes" are a much higher level of thinking & acting than most people dream of. Most of us say we want change, but keep voting for candidates who simply continue the status quo, and change never comes. Marianne uses a higher level of thinking than most of us are even aware of, and it has the potential of making those kinds of changes we all dream of but don't know how to achieve. I say, give her a chance.

While Marianne agrees with many of the current Democratic thinking on issues, the difference she brings is a higher level of understanding on how to achieve them without making anyone feel they've been coerced or mistreated. I know she'll experience failures, but everyone does. I just feel her approach is of a higher caliber & deserves a chance to prove itself. I feel it would have highly positive results, even with the occasional failures. It's NOT the issues that set her apart, but her approach & her high-level understanding on how to manifest positive change.

I'm sorry but solving the worlds problems by positive thinking isn't realistic.

If we all believe in ourselves then things will magically get better isn't going to work in the real world.

Pushing that as an agenda issue is beyond stupid.

Your whole post describes Republicans, not Democrats. Neither Schumer or Pelosi, or any Democrat I know of wanted the shutdown. And on healthcare, if Republicans wanted to solve our healthcare mess, they had control of the White House & both houses of Congress thru 2017 & 2018. Why didn't they do it? Democrats couldn't work with them because they insisted on killing Obamacare. If they'd worked with Democrats to FIX Obamacare, OR replace it with a system that would retain healthcare for those currently on Obamacare, Democrats would be happy to work with Republicans. But Republicans didn't want to replace Obamacare with a viable, workable system. They wanted to protect the insurance companies & let those on Obamacare lose their coverage. I agree with Democrats on this.
