When Mexicans are at a lunch break they bring an old boom box and play that music. When you see one driving - you hear that music. When your Mexican neighbor has a party - same music.
And it’s all the same stuff, almost seems like same song played by millions of people at the same time.
What is so attractive in this music and why do you need to make everyone around you to listen to it?

I would assume it's most likely cultural.

If you were ever in Hussong's Cantina in Ensenada you'd understand! :)

Germans have national music, Poles, Ukrainians, pretty much any culture has one. Yet, Mexicans are the only ones that listen to it all the time, non stop: at work, during lunch, when driving, hanging out with friends. How do you not get sick of it?

When I dated a Mexican girl, she like to listen to Freddy Fender

When I heard the Crips coming down the street, they were often playing Low Rider.

Maybe Mariachi music is acceptable to most.

Mariachi music is from the 1950s having been influenced from earlier styles of music:

Today's generation doesn't really care all that much for it.

I mainly hear Tejano music. From a distance, it sounds a lot like Polka music.

Very good observation as Tejano music is influenced by Polish and German music:

Norteño (Spanish pronunciation: [norˈteɲo], northern), also called música norteña, is a genre of Mexican musicrelated to polka and corridos. As its names indicates, Norteño is the typical music of Northern Mexico. Theaccordion and the bajo sexto are norteño's most characteristic instruments.

My wife is from Ennis, TX. They have a large Chech culture and lots of Polka music. I hear it a lot at weddings and I hear lots of Tejano around town and at quincieras.

I live in Mexifornia, you know the hermit state that no longer recognize the U.S. Constitution.

I would say over 98% of the time Mexicans in California are listening to that Mexican polka music.

This guy does some highly creative work. Raised in the Southwest, his music seems to carry a mix of Mariachi, Eastern European, and alternative. I really like his work.

PS: The Asian dancer in this is hot! :D I always find myself watching her.

Germans, Poles, Irish, all immigrated in large numbers to Mexico and became a part of its melting pot. (This in contrast to the USA where these ethnicities remained within their own enclaves until the suburbs were opened up after World War II. ) Thus, no surprise that these Central Europeans influenced the music.

I spent several hours at a quincenera and had to listen to that stuff non stop. I tried drinking alot to drown it out but that seemed to just make it worse. Every ****ing song sounds exactly the same and it all sucks. I thought country music was bad until I had to listen to that stuff for hours on end.

I am in deep south Texas and so I sympathize. It's either Marachi music or Tejano music almost all the time. I'd pay them to at least substitute Cajun music once in a while; but it is what it is. It could be worse in that at least it's not rap music all the damn time.

I had a fight with neighbors about the noise and now they always tune it down when I’m around, sometimes they mix in American r&b and rock when they see me.

I feel your pain. I really do! The Mexican music sounds so annoying, and it's not the only annoying as hell music. It happens to be Russian music and the Russians that adopt the same behaviour like the Mexicans. So far away on a different continent yet the same mentality. Isn't that weird? It totally is, right?

So Russians in my city would blast Russian old schlager balad rubbish music and roll their windows down and boost that cactus so we can hear how "great it is". But how can anyone expect others to have the same interests and to force their own interests on others. That's the Third World behavior I not only don't like but I hate in my cold and absinthian Bulgarian soul.

And by the way, the way they depict Mexicans in the movies, that's not racism. It's obviously the trueness. Mexicans totally have Lowriders with some golden ugly rims. Ughh.

It's just poor manners to BLAST music of any kind in public. Forcing your musical taste on the rest of us, out of your car, boom box, or whatever. If we wanted to hear a concert we would have bought a ticket. Rude is the default for some, unfortunately. I think for some it's even a way to say, "This is OUR country now! Hear us roar, ( or at least our stereos), Kinda like a dog pissing to mark territory.

At least it always seemed that way to me. Because surly they can hear it, and enjoy it just as much at a lower volume. But they seem to feel the need to make sure everybody hears it, and I have gotten the definitive impression that some of these arrogant fckers, enjoy it MORE, if they know it bothers you.

    Absolutely correct, sir.

It's just like marking a territory, like you have said it yourself. And if it wasn't tragic it was gonna be for laughter. In my own very beautiful country, I often see not only Russians, but my own great country mates doing the same thing, especially at night. You know, here we don't have laws that... We do have laws, but nobody enforces them; or enforces them where there are more than 5 calls about the same thing, usually. And about small matters like such, nobody responds. So the music can go boom-boxing until the very early morning, sir.

Laws are not present, and I could boom my speakers in my own car too, but I would never do that. You know why? It's because "Integrity is being good, even when no one is watching" – written on the Spyderco's stuff. Sal Glesser's line I believe.

I believe I can be truly greater when I behave the same when everyone is watching, and nobody is watching. The person that want to show off is also often the weakest one. Some of them mark their territory, and also show us how weak they are. Their p*ss is water. They mark with vapour.

Well. My hat is off to you Sir! I am sorry that you seem to have no recourse for this problem. May seem a small annoyance to some, but these things take a toll on our enjoyment of life, especially in our own homes. "Their piss is water, they mark with vapor" excellent. They themselves seem to evaporate eventually. The man who is strong of character respects the rights of others, and has no need to grandstand.

Thank you, and a something more that you'd enjoy:

The Big stick ideology refers to U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt's foreign policy: "speak softly and carry a big stick." The idea is negotiating peacefully but also having strength in case things go wrong.

This Stick is big. It's not in motion, but when it shall be swung it hurts like giving birth. That's our greatest strength. They don't know this. They. And we better leave it that way. Leave them boomin. Loud is hiding on their flaws. The dog that barks...

And by the way, I almost forgot.

What's up with their headphones. These people never heard of headphones? I like loud music. I have a Headphone Amp and when I want to listen to that loud, I hit it!

I have a couple of pairs of headphones. A Sennheiser, an Audio-Technica and x2 SONYs. But they just don't want to use this, do they!
