That's exactly how farm subsidies wind up, if you aren't careful.

But the EU subsidies are linked to countryside protection nowadays. They are a straight £90 per acre and if you pull up your hedgerows you don't get any.
The days of guaranteed prices which led to intensification and over production are long gone.

There's a thread with your name on Otern, it's called ''shame on Japan'' so much ignorance about whaling I almost jumped in to defend it but it would just feel too dirty.......

Yeah, that thing looks tasty as hell. What is it with you anglos and whales anyway? Australia keep throwing a fit whenever some of those beasts die. While their refugee internment camps with tyrannical media regulations go largely unnoticed.

It's Jesse. I still can't post a lot but I read when I get a minute. This is a bigger and fuller house, much like my own has become.

Why would any modern nation want to hunt whales? I'm told the meat isn't very good. Besides, there aren't many left, and their brains are much bigger than ours. They might be super-intelligent.

I often wonder how many Liveleak members found their way here.

Glad to see y'all hooked up here.

I haven't seen any proof they are super intelligent. Sure, they're smart for animals. But so are crows. I have personal objections to killing crows and ravens, but most people seem to be ok with it, as they eat the eggs of really stupid singing birds.

Your average hamburger cow has a distinct personality, hobbies, relationships with other cows, and a wide range of emotions. Yet we eat them without batting an eye.

Great, go slaughter some Minke whales then. Leave the humpbacks and blues alone for a few generations. I'll have a bite of Minke with you, if it's any good..

This is how whaling is done these days. Blue whales and humpbacks are left alone.

+1 on crows, I've wanted a pet one for ages.
As for Ravens, aren't they almost sacred to you Vikings because of the navigation business(finding land).

No, I'm long past those days. I literally moved into a bigger house, one kid came home from college and one parent has temporarily moved in. Sandwich generation. I bet I'm getting more sleep than you, though - how's it going?

And whales generally and the largest one escaped breed very slowly. Any loses takes years to replace. That's one of the reasons Blues are still having problems even (officially) have been protected for a few generations.

Kath here. I went back to my pre-DCF forum handle, from way back when.

I absolutely love this place! So many bells AND whistles with the superb bonus of this not resembling an echo chamber. The variety of opinions is refreshing.
