UK can refuse a Brexit transition and keep to what we want. Why not?
If it's running down the clock to leave the bloc, then so be it, why not?
There are other more pro Brexit reporting this like (I paraphrase) 'accept reality, futile EU demands, UK will control its waters' or 'EU learn UK can still play hardball'.

Why not? why can't UK refuse to extend and stick to our guns?

I imagine the reason would be the existence of the pro EU faction.

UK won't be treated like it's in the EU, if countries with deals with the EU don't have to be alligned so closely to the EU, to accept a level playing field, then neither is the UK.
UK didn't leave the EU to be treated like it's in the EU.

And they're not negotiating with the EU 'thank God'.
If the EU doesn't change its insistence to have UK closely aligned to the EU then our government and the EU should just have a crash out no deal.

What could extending the negotiations achieve if neither side is willing to budge?
Come the review in May (May the 11th) we should just call it a day if progress hasn't been made.

Have they ever negotiated for anything in their lives? Imagine them trying to buy a user car. They'd pay more than the driveaway price new.

They treat outside the EU countries like crap.
Everyone who has a deal with the EU also has a complaint about that deal.
I don't think the UK should have a deal with the EU without some insurances in place.
