Listening to the radio on my way yesterday late avo to the Eureka Skydeck to watch the sun go down, I found out Midnight Oil is back together and touring.

Awesome Aussie band and very political, Peter Garret having served for the ALP in parliament, so perhaps one of the few bands you could include in a political forum.

Other famous musician political activists probably Bono from U2 who's done a huge amount of campaigning for Africa, also Bob Geldorf, Nina Simone, probably also Beyonce... Bruce Springsteen....

After all these years, their music still relevant... so here goes

Going to see two of their shows - chance to re-live some of my better childhood music memories.

What, that you don't drown in hot oil? Not really; it could be tepid, or cold, even.

Ah yes, the good old days when rock stars actually fought for Stuff That Matters. African kids starving.

The current posturing from centre-stage is embarrassing. They're like dandified French nobles, protesting changes in court etiquette.

    oh yeah ...

Midnight Oil are as cheesy as hell, IMHO. And P Garrett is an ivory tower dwelling whitey-white pants elitist tosser. Smart, but clueless.

    :)

Also, he (P Garrett) was raised in an upper middle class elitist white bread family on Sydney's north shore, before studying for a law degree at a time when only rich kids went to university. Further, while he was posturing about the struggles of the working classes and indigenous folk, he was sending his kids to one of the most expensive and whitest private schools in the country ... and BOARDING them there. Couldn't even be bothered to raise his own kids.

I'm surprised by all the hate on Midnight oil, do we really need more people singing empty headed songs about love and sex whilst grabbing their crotch

Look I am not pleased with some of the stances Garrett takes, but one, he had a go, and he puts out good music.

I wouldn't waste studio hours on political messages, I'd ask for funds to feed starving kids. You know, like rock stars USED to do before they died out and were replaced by Dandified Courtiers.

Hate to break it to ya, but musos have always sung about love and sex. It's when they veer off those traditional topics that we start to see what they're made of. And FTR, who is the little girl in your gif?

Music can carry powerful messages, like the Psalms David wrote in the Bible.

Some of the lyrics of today's music is ridiculous... like the " I'll catch a grenade for you" by Bruno Mars.... who's the idiot that's going to do that?

    Hmmm,
I have to say that I didn't like the switch from the Greens to Labor. Okay everyone can change his/her opinion, I just felt at the time Peter was seeing he was going nowhere with the Greens, and Labor was more promising....
And that he (under Labor) denounced his opinion about the US and invading other countries, despicable.
Anyway, I loved MO,not sure now. I am just a betrayed human being,
    cheers

Well yeah, but posturing (politically) about the indigenous and downtrodden, when you yourself are a born-rich white man with not a clue of the life you're 'championing', is more embarrassing than The Beeb grabbing his crotch. At least the latter is honest.

Bruno Mars ... eww. Lowest Common Denominator Muzik.
