Mississippi is rated the least-educated state in the union, and one of the most diehards for Trumpery.
Dominated by Republican politicians, it is the poorest state in America.

Those are insurmountable barriers for Democrats to overcome in 2018.

As the least-educated, poorest state in the union, the probability of a Republican victory in Mississippi in the era of Trumpery was overwhelming.

I merely note the demographic reality and the consequence to be expected.

Were it Massachusetts, the best-educated state, or New Hampshire, the wealthiest (both with Republican governors, but all-Democratic congressional delegations) the results would have been quite different.

It is not a partisan calculus, but one based upon empirical reality.
