Yankees lead Astros 3-2 in ALCS. Back to Houston (for Game 6 and a possible Game 7). Home team has won all 5 games. Verlander pitching must-win Game 6 tomorrow night. Dodgers lead Cubs 3-1 in NLCS. Kershaw tries to close out Cubbies in Game 5 tonight (at Wrigley).
This is a great matchup. Kershaw vs. Verlander. Glad these two teams are in the WS. Would have preferred the red sox but I can't always get what I want
Game #3 tonight in Houston. Series tied 1-1. If LA loses tonight, they might have to bring back Kershaw tomorrow on short rest. Game #2 was an Instant Classic.
All Time Great WS Game last night. Houston won 13-12 in extra innings. 2nd Longest WS Game Ever. 5 hours 17 minutes. Ended at 1:37 AM on the East Coast. Epic. Houston up 3-2. JV goes for the close out tomorrow night.
As someone who has watched every World Series Game since 1960 when my beloved Pirates beat one of the great Yankee teams 4 games to 3, I must say that this year's series is one of the great match ups I have ever seen. Games 2 and 5 are classics already and possibly two more to go! I am pulling for Houston as they are one of the few teams that haven't won one yet. I am not a Dodger fan but I really respect and enjoy this year's team. So many great young hitters...Taylor, Turner, Bellinger, Puig and Seagar for the Blue Crew and Springer, Altuve, Correa, Bregman, Gurriel, Gonzalez for the Astros...I can't wait for tomorrow night. I might go down to the ballpark and buy a ticket for game 6....Viva Baseball!
Yeah. The 1960 Series was unreal. The Maz homer was the capper, but it was epic all the way around. The Yankees scored so many runs that Bobby Richardson was voted MVP from the losing team. Yeah, 2 and 5 are already All-Time classics. The Dodgers showed great character in tying it up last night. Verlander has never won a WS Game and missed twice with Detroit in 2006 and 2012. Both of these teams are young and should be around the playoffs for years to come. JV has a chance to truly cement his (already Hall-of-Fame worthy) legacy. And, yes, I do want Houston (since they have never won the Series and it is a great story for the city after the hurricane).
Game 7 in 1960 was so nbelievable. The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead with their ace Vernon Law on the hill, but the Yankees eventually caught and then took a commanding 7-4 lead with some great clutch hitting including a big home run by Yogi Berra, going into the bottom of the 8th. With a runner on 1st and one out, Bill Virdon hit a perfect double play ball to Tony Kubek that took a horrible hop and hit Kubek in the throat, knocking him out of the game and instead of an inning ending double play, the Bucs were in business. The Pirates scored two runs before back up catcher Hal Smith hit a 3 run homer to make it 9-7 Pittsburgh. The Yankees scored twice in the ninth to tie it mainly because of an outrageously great base running play by Mickey Mantle who dove back into first base on a sure double play ball to Pirate 1st baseman Rocky Nelson....9-9 bottom of the ninth, 1-0 slider to Mazeroski and.....as our announcer Bob Prince said: "you can kiss it goodbye"....
