Ellison decided to give up his safe Minneapolis-area seat to try for attorney general when incumbent Lori Swanson ran for governor. He said it was a chance to make a difference in pushing back against some of President Donald Trump's policies that he says are hurting people. In 2006, Ellison became the first Muslim elected to Congress. He is also vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Republicans haven't held the Minnesota attorney general seat for more than half a century.
As one person pointed out that a large percentage of voters in Minnesota vote by mail and voted over two weeks ago before it was revealed that Keith Ellison might have crossed the line while using sharia law to abuse his ex-girlfriend.

I don't think Minnesota voters will be too concerned about his lack of support for Israel's human rights abuses.
Minnesota is pretty liberal and they once elected a loon for Governor and even sent a clown to the U.S. Senate so anything is possible in Minnesota. Yeah yeah I know, the hermit Kingdom of California has "Moonbeam" Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi, Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris and a reconquista-socialist anchor baby for its state attorney general.
The hardline Zionists will attack anyone who is not 100% lined up with them. It's entirely understandable that a Muslim will be sympathetic to Palestinians in this conflict, above and beyond the sympathy that any normal person should have for them. The possible issues with Ellison that any democrat (small d here) should be concerned about seem to me to fall into two categories: (1) Despite his very good statements about the Israel/Palestine conflict, anti-Semitism, etc. he does sometimes associate with Islamic groups who don't share his liberal values. On the other hand, for those who know their history, we often see more liberal-minded groups co operating with people who are not very liberal at all, so long as they are basically 'on the same side'. Thus in pre-Israel Palestine the relatively 'liberal' Haganah alernately fought with, and cooperated with, the extreme nationalist Irgun. (2) The 'Manchurian Candidate' possibility: could Ellison just be putting on a liberal mask, while secretly being an extreme Islamist? While all politicians no doubt craft their public statements to adapt as closely as possible to what their potential voters want to hear, could Ellison just be saying things that he absolutely does not believe? It seems to me that this would be very hard, psychologically, to pull off. Even his girlfriend wouldn't be allowed to know. Who would be? How would he communicate with his fellow Islamist jihadi conspirators? It seems unlikely to me. No doubt to some extent he is wearing a liberal mask, but psychological masks worn consistently over the years have a tendency to grow into the face.
Hard to pull off, and not too practical. What's a crypto hardline Muslim going to do as Attorney General? I could not see that having much of a practical outcome in his favor. That's all silly talk, of course. The main thing is that he is in line with where the democrats writ small and the Democratic Party seem to be going collectively, which is more in the bold progressive direction in response to Trump(ism).
Actually -- stepping aside from the American Left/Right conflict -- he's exactly the kind of Muslim people who believe in liberal democracy want to see emerge around the world. (Of course I'd prefer it if he were a conservative, but let's not ask for the moon.) It's all very well to drop drones onto the heads of jihadis and I'm very happy whenever that happens. but the real way to defeat radical Islam is to pull away its base, to 'drain the swamp' to use a now-problematic phrase, by integrating them into the modern world. This is happening, but slowly. In my opinion, it's the unresolved Israeli/Palestinian conflict that gets in the way of this happening more quickly, and that, unfortunately, looks like going on indefinitely.
Don't they have another Muslim in office also? What's up with their anti-Christianism in that state? I find it odd that the Paul Bunyan, spam eating, holier than thou bible thumpers suddenly are embracing Islam.
Surely there is an attempt at making a point in this threads OP. Has anyone discovered it yet? A democrat usually wins a democrat primary as well as a republican wins a republican primary. Are Ellison and Omar being called DINO's by the OP?
