And the "leak" that happened 3 months ago was analyzed and laughed at. There's not much new in this article, from what I can see. But then again, I get bored of the russian outlook on warfare quite easily.Put up, or shut up.

Didn't America nuke a couple of cities of no military significance a while back? Of course then the enemy was in no position to retaliate...

Then stop flying around like provokative idiots, and we'd have no problem.

Mutual assured destruction is the only thing that keeps us in peace. If NATO expands Russia must react. So this big torpedo (real or miracle one) is the reaction. Talking about provocation is pure BS.

We have a very very very bad leader. His name is Tayyip Erdogan. But Russia has already proved that they have a worse leader. His name is PUTIN.
All his movements make Tayyip more and more stronger.
This idiot (I mean Putin)is now trying to exagerate all situations against Turkiye. He now gave permission to PYD(PKK's Syrian version)to establish an Office at Moscow. And at the same time he is accusing Turkiye to have negotiations with ISIL. I don't say this is not correct but I really do not have any idea if it is correct or not. But it is crystal clear that Russia is supporting a terrorist organisation, PYD; like USA and EU countries. Of corse this is another discussion, this is classical hypocracy of western World, the name of this game is MY TERRORIST IS GOOD TERRORIST.
But again all these things make Tayyip more and more stronger.
Regarding nukes, we already learned that Russian politicians, strategists, reporters have already started to discuss a war between Turkiye and Russia and they have also almost agreed on using tactical nuclear weapons immediately against Turkiye and invade Bosphorus because if the war will be with classical conventional weapons then this might cause a risk for Russia. In any case, using nuclear weapons is the worst humanity crime in this (*)(*)(*)(*)ing World,USA has already made this crime. And if Russia is trying to do the same crime, as a Turkish man, I suggest them to kill all Turks. Otherwise I am sure there will be no peace for any Russian on this *******ned planet for sure.

Erdogan should not have attacked the Russian plane. Or he'd have to apologize at least. Now it is time to harvest the consequences...

You don't know very much about our nuclear command-control structure, do you?

They thought about this sort of thing decades ago. Our whole command structure is designed to prevent "decapitation" by a surprise attack.

The missiles themselves are in the central US -- far from the coasts -- or on submarines that are constantly at sea.

The command system is distributed geographically. Ever hear of Cheyenne Mountain?

In the event of loss of communication, each sub crew, silo crew and bomber crew is able to make the decision to launch.

Russia pulling a stunt like this would be committing suicide -- just like we would if we tried it on them.

I do not have that much faith in this CC, once the government is taken out the response will be slow, unorganized, and hardly capable of retaliating fully. Given that the satelites would also be taken the fight would be blind. Yes we would level most of their cities, but the US would not exist while Russia would and vise a versa if first strike is carried out with out notice. MAD only works if you have time to retaliate in time.

Did anybody mention invasion? But why all this complaining about opening of PKK office at Moscow?

The military has plans for every situation imaginable, do you real think the generals in Omaha, Colorado, and the rest of the interior of the country are going to sit around and wring their hands? Do you really think you have come up with the one situation that they over looked? No my friend if that would happen every missile will be in the air and on the way.

Yeah I saw the rapid, coordinated response on 911, I also saw this department cheat on tests, fail competence tests, lose a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing Nuke..... I do not trust this arm of our military.

You know nothing about it; how are you in a position to judge whether it's effective or not?

We have command/control facilities scattered all over the country. For instance, there's a backup Pentagon in a nuclear-hardened bunker in Pennsylvania.

Cheyenne Mountain is a nuclear-hardened facility built into a mountain in Colorado. It's primary mission is early warning of a nuclear attack, but it could launch if need be -- even if every inch of coastline in the United States were vaporized.

It has a redundant/mirror facility at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.

Also look up "Looking Glass." We maintain an airborne command post on 24-hour alert, either flying or on ground alert (meaning it can launch very quickly -- within 5 minutes or so, I believe). This command post would have full authority over our nuclear weapons in the event we lost our normal command structure.

There is so much redundancy built in that a coastal attack such as the OP describes would be, as I said, suicide -- which is the point. Do you really think the United States was going to make it easy to cripple us? This is Nuclear Strategy 101.

Taking out satellites would be warning of an attack, and wouldn't accomplish much -- we use satellites to monitor Russian launches, but they're not needed to guide our own strikes.

Even if our missiles were dependent on GPS, those satellites are in medium-earth orbit -- above the reach of known anti-satellite weapons. There are few enough objects in that region (less than 100) that an effort to attack the GPS satellites would be observable.

Thank you for being happy for me, and yeah I am not going to be believing anything about stealth torpedoes having been placed there to create giant tidal waves. For one thing, putting them just off the coast wouldn't create much of a tidal wave coming in our direction. For another, for the price Russia would pay for even attempting such an attack, they would just fire ICBM's--the thing we would be doing in response safely from the plains and mid-west. The problem with the scenario is that it would knock out very little if true that would prevent the complete destruction of Russia. The only way to possibly create the damage you are dreaming of would be to put those 10 stealth nukes in the canary islands and blast off the side of La Palma anyways.

    Mmmmm.
1969 the Iranian embassy was overrun by militants and 52 Americans taken hostage.
It only took 144 days before the military 'sprang' into action and launched the dramatically named "Operation Eagle Claw"

Time wasn't an issue in that case, we needed to develop good intelligence on the location and security of the hostages, and there were hurdles because we had few bases in the area -- most of our regional plans had assumed we could base in Iran, and those plans went out the window when the Shah was deposed.

It was also 1979. Our immediately post-Vietnam military, which at that point had been all-volunteer for only 6 years, was not well-equipped to stage a complex commando raid.

Our nuclear-response planning, on the other hand, is all predicated on having 15 minutes or less of warning. THOSE plans are far more hair-trigger.

There have been some issues within the nuclear force in recent years:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/28/u...fficers-accused-in-cheating-scandal.html?_r=0
    http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ore-nuclear-commanders-amid-leadership-crisis

But the Air Force is clearly taking the problem seriously, and there's no indication it has meaningfully impaired our ability to respond to an attack.

A torpedo is slow and in this case even radioactive ... I guess it won't be a great deal to intercept it. The problem is where ... Still at kilometer far from the coast, exploding, such a device could cause tremendous damages.

You do not need to think about Russian submarines. You need to think about the external debt of Sweden. 188% of GDP - is a lot. Every Swede (including infants) must now more than 100 thousand euros. Here's the problem and the danger for you. Because your imaginary economic "prosperity" will soon evaporate.

How nice of you to completely ignore what I said. I don't know why you bring up external debt, but since you did, let me point out that if we take into account how much Sweden has lent to others, the net debt is just 0.3% of gdp, which isn't a problem at all.

Launch codes and authorization is required. All the people that can authorise the codes are found in DC. With no authorization codes, it's literally impossible to launch a counter attack, even with the proper keys.

Russia, on the other hand, has an AI system called the "dead hand". It will assure mutual destruction if it detects any nuclear attack on Russian soil.

Tsar bomb was designed at 100mt but was tested at 58Mt as 100Mt would cause too much fallout.

You can easily crack or break away a portion of continental shelf, causing even more wide spread destruction. The bigger the bomb, the more likely this is to happen.

and if that torpedo was powered by a nuclear reactor? No one said that it has to be launched by a submarine. Maybe it can propel itself into position and wait off the coast in some dark murky place. Once the order is given, it will move out. Instructions like these can easily be programed. Its probably linked to the dead hand.

You are over estimating our capabilities, if either we or the Russians can launch a preemptive unnoticed strike the other side will never be able to retaliate completely, with enough to end the other side.At same time this would be enough to create a Nuclear winter, and probably end civilization as we know it.

I think it's getting too dangerous to let Russia continue to exist as an independent state. I think it's increasingly likely China will be the one to solve the problem of instability in what is now Russia.
