After all, the only thing the label of "moderate" guarantees is that one is somehow less "extreme" than the next guy. Still, according to this report, even this decision is a logistical one. The prison lacks the facilities to carry out the stoning, they say, though perhaps that claim aims to mollify those who would tolerate no retreat under pressure from the stoning sentence.

But just as fast as this story came out, there was also a denial and claims the official was misquoted. Time will tell.
ran Fails to Silence Critics by Changing Woman's Death Sentence From Stoning to Hanging," by Perry Chiaramonte for Fox News, December 28:

Old news, unsuitable for Latest News forum. Ranks with ' One small step for a man ' thread.

You have to admit this is progress.

They may even progress further by changing from hanging, to death by injection and buy the technology from the US.

Next they'll replace the rope with bungee elastic and hang people indoors. They'll die from head throma for hiting the ceiling instead...

They could, but they're too busy buying Canadian uranium from China and Kazakhstan.

Are you claiming that Canada is the third party in this and that we did not get value for our sales?

Perhaps so... lol Still, you have to admit that executing someone for murder is quite different from doing it to someone for adultery.

It's the style of it that gets me. I don't think Iranians use curtains and a seated audience.

There have been public executions in Iran.

That being said, while our presentation of it might seem morbidly theatrical, I think a lot of relatives of victims opt out of the viewing.

I think I probably would myself.

The Death Penalty has its problems, and the appeals process needs reform. Also, I will have to admit that the facts that none of our peers have it and that it's one thing we have in common with many Islamist states are disturbing.

Well, we did provide the uranium for India, Pakistan, Israel, France, UK and the USA... So why not...

That, and you have to compete with Australia's uranium trade.

I'm all for it. But if acquired at the user end by a circuitous route, we lost out on the sale value.

Also, keep in mind that we are just starting to prospect the northern half of our country. Most of our minerals riches are still untapped.

Like Australia, our population is mostly concentrated in a small area along the border. I would say that close to 70 to 90% of the area of the country is unhabited. This is starting to change in my province with a new $80b project to open up the northern region for mineral and energy production.

I'm guessing the extreme temperatures up north are the reason behind staying on the southern border (along with trade).

Mostly the trade... 80 to 95% of our business is with the USA. And also the Great Lakes and the St-Lawrence rivers where the main way of transportation of goods and people until the 20th century.

There are village and small town up north, even major city, when there was a river to help with commerce and the moving of goods, like the Saguenay region for exemple.

Now our big city in the south are in dire need of upgrading their infrastructure. It would be easier if there was a way to move the people out of them to have some elbow room to do the job. The new opening of roads and building of infrastructure up north may be the solution for that, especially if there are well paying job linked to it.

The thread concerning further crimes against Palestinian farmers was current at the time. Yours ain't.
Anyway, stay with the topic- which is now uranium deposits. Whatever you intended has been treated with the contempt it deserved.

Actualy he can... It isn't up to you to pass judgment or enforce the rules. You should consider creating your own forum if you feel the need to dictate to other how and what they can post.

Hanging is okay. We're good with hanging in the U.S. And, really, women have to know that it isn't good to defame their families.

All seriousness aside, I wake up every morning and thank the good Lord that our own religionists are not in charge.
