The corporate control of governments' and the attack on democracy it represents, transcends party politics.

Let's look at this from an ethical perspective...

This company(and its founders) spend years perfecting a process that allows for them to alter the genes of plants, allowing them to be easier to farm. They then take these altered seeds, and sell them to farms with the caveat that they will need to give back all the seeds they collect at harvest. Most would agree that this is over bearing, which is why it is so surprising that farmers even agree to these terms in the first place. I don't see any criminal behavior here, just a lack of fore thought in the monsanto customers, and some jerkiness on the part of mansanto for offering such lame terms.

In regards to the theft allegations, I don't have enough evidence to make a sound judgement.

It just kills some people that Monsanto dares to make something that people want and are willing to pay for it, and then Monsanto dares to protect their investment.

Roundup Herbicide Causes A Smorgasbord Of Fatal Diseases,

The immense dangers associated with exposure to Monsanto's Roundup herbicide are
becoming incontrovertible, with the latest indictment of this deadly chemical cocktail
coming from a new paper published in the open access, peer-reviewed journal Entropy.
A scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and her colleague
found that, contrary to industry claims, the active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate,
interferes with human digestion and the biosynthesis of nutrients, which can cause a host
    of fatal diseases.

Most of the chronic illnesses that plague Western society, in fact, are the same residual
consequences that can arise due to exposure to Roundup. This stunning fact raises some
serious questions about the safety of the general food supply, much of which is derived
from or contains ingredients made from genetically-modified (GM) crops that are
sprayed with Roundup. In other words, when the vast majority of today's most prevalent
diseases can be traced to the same long-term side effects brought about by exposure to
Roundup, we have a very real public health crisis on our hands.

To arrive at this conclusion, independent scientist and consultant Anthony Samsel and
MIT researcher Stephanie Seneff evaluated a plethora of scientific research on
    glyphosate, including data showing that the toxin disrupts microbial balance in the gut;
impairs the transport of sulphate; and suppresses the normal activity of various members
of the cytochrome P450 (CYP) family of enzymes, which are used by the body to break
down toxins and produce blood. And in the process of their quest, these two inquiring
minds determined that the negative effects of glyphosate on mammals, which includes
    humans, have been greatly underestimated.

"Glyphosate's inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes is an overlooked
component of its toxicity to mammals," write the authors in their abstract. "Residues are
found in the main foods of the Western diet, comprised primarily of sugar, corn, soy and
wheat ... Consequences are most of the diseases and conditions associated with a
Western diet, which include gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease,
depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer's disease."

Roundup exposure linked to brain disorders, reproductive problems, and cancer
The discovery that glyphosate directly inhibits CYP enzyme activity is noteworthy, as
this class of enzymes is responsible for regulating proper metabolism. When CYP
enzymes are blocked from functioning as intended, in other words, a condition known as
gut dysbiosis can result, which in turn can lead to inflammatory bowel disease and other
chronic gastrointestinal disorders. Such disorders, as you may already know, are often
linked to autism spectrum disorders and various other brain conditions

Beyond this, glyphosate has also been shown to directly interfere with reproductive
function. A known chelator, the spraying of Roundup on crops has been shown to not
only deplete nutrients from crops, but also block their absorption from soil. When
ingested, glyphosate and glyphosate residues can cause similar damage in humans, as it
both depletes and decreases the bioavailability of important reproductive nutrients like
cholesterol sulfate and zinc. Glyphosate has also been shown to cross the placental
barrier and damage developing human life in mothers' wombs.

"Contrary to the current widely-held misconception that glyphosate is relatively harmless
to humans, the available evidence shows that glyphosate may rather be the most
important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions that have
become prevalent in Westernized societies," explain the authors in their discussion.

"While glyphosate is obviously not the only environmental toxin to contribute to these
diseases and conditions, glyphosate's ability to disrupt the gut bacteria, to impair serum
transport of sulfate and phosphate, and to interfere with CYP enzymes, logically
progresses to this multitude of diseased states, through well-established biological
    processes."

    Yeah, I'll take it.

I don't know about the legality of it, but ethically it's okay.

Monsanto has spent tons of money doing research and developing this product -- which benefits the whole world. Their stuff they invest in should be proprietory so they can fund their projects and develop more good stuff. If the Indian government forces Monsanto to share their secrets, Monsanto will be forced to shut down, thus depriving the world of some needed products.

It's funny that you mention "government meddling." The crux of the issue is government meddling indeed. American patent laws are a bit more loose than most other countries.

If they were more restrictive, this would give government and corporations less power to manipulate the market.

Patents themselves are a slippery slope, precisely because they are a government induced barrier to entry in a market.

For about the past 20 years, Democrats have been forcing pharmaceutical corporations to share their recipes with companies that are underselling them with generic medications. These big pharmaceutical corporations have spent billions of dollars on research to develop hundreds of amazing medications and treatments. If Democrats hadn't robbed them, there would by now be medications to successfully treat such diseases as cancer, autism, diabetes, etc., etc. -- not necessarily to cure those ailments, but to hold them in continuous remission or inactivity.

Of course these big corporations are greedy. They have to make a profit to survive and develop more wonderful medicines and drugs. But they can't afford to develop anything else because Democrats force them to share their research with little hole-in-the-wall drug distributors.

Sure, it's nice to have cheaper prescriptions, but not at the expense of shutting down the whole research industry.

Big Pharma isn't hurting for money and never has. A large portion of research is subsidized through federal endowments at universities where cooperation between them and corporations occurs.

It's not "Democrats" pushing for corporations to share patents with generic manufacturers. Sharing knowledge for generics is what eventually happens after a patent loses exclusivity. It's a time based thing that has nothing to do with politics.

However, since you mentioned it, there are certainly politicians that have pushed to extend the exclusivity via patents. It's not typical of either party to reduce this period, because of the money associated with the pharma lobby.

If the patent system were eliminated, they wouldn't have to share their secrets at all.

Health Scientists Discover Bt Toxins Found In Monsanto Crops Damage Red Blood Cells
    May 11, 2013 by Arjun

Studies are showing that Bt toxins found in Monsanto crops are harmful to mammalian blood by damaging red blood cells and more. RBC’s are responsible for delivering oxygen to the body tissues through blood flow.

Bacillus thuringensis (Bt) is a bacterium commonly used as a biological pesticide. It is a microorganism that produces toxic chemicals. It occurs naturally in the environment, and is usually isolated from soil, insects and plant surfaces. Prior to this study, Bt was thought to be toxic only to insects, but recent studies are proving otherwise.

Dr. Mezzomo and his team of Scientists from the Department of Genetics and Morphology and the Institute of Biological Sciences, at University of Brasilia recently published a study that involved Bacillus thuringensis (Bt toxin) and its effects on mammalian blood. According to the study, the “Cry” toxins that are found in Monsanto’s GMO crops like corn and soy, are much more toxic to mammals than previously thought. The study was published in the Journal of Hematology and Thromboembolic Diseases(1).

We do not support animal testing, and think it is unnecessary. It should really be a no brainer that GMO crops cause significant damage to human health. Studies that don’t require animal testing have already proven the dangers of GMO consumption. This study unfortunately required the use of Swiss Albino Mice if Bt was to be properly examined. At the same time, most of us know that the existence of GMOs is completely unnecessary.

Advances in genetic engineering promise the expression of multiple Cry toxins in Bt-plants, known as gene pyramiding. Therefore, studies on non-target species are requirements of international protocols to verify the adverse effects of these toxins, ensuring human and environmental biosafety.

Due to its growing use in agricultural activities, Bt presence hasalready been detected in different environmental compartments such as soil and water. Consequently, the bioavailability of Cry proteins has increased, and for biosafety reasons their adverse effects might be studied, mainly for non-target organisms. Studies are therefore needed to evaluate Bt toxicity to non-target organisms; the persistence of Bt toxin and its stability in aquatic environments; and the risks to humans and animals exposed to potentially toxic levels of Bt through their diet.(1)

Thus, we aimed to evaluate, in Swiss albino mice, the hematotoxicity and genotoxicity of four Bt spore-crystals…
Scientists tested levels ranging from 27 mg to 270 mg over a seven day period, it was remarkably evident that the Cry toxins were hemotoxic, even at the lowest doses administered. Hemotoxins destroy red blood cells, disrupt blood clotting and cause organ degeneration and tissue damage.

The number of RBC’s, (red blood cells) as well as their size, were significantly reduced, and so were the levels of hemoglobin for oxygen to attach to. Every factor regarding RBC’s indicated some level of damage for all levels of toxin administered and across all cry proteins. The tests clearly demonstrated that Cry proteins resulting from the Bt toxin were cytotoxic (quality of being toxic to cells) to bone marrow cells. Studies contiually show that these proteins kill blood cells bytargeting the cell membranes of RBC’s.

Cry1Ab (the protein produced in common Bt corn and soy) induced microcytic hypochromic anemia in mice, even at the lowest tested dose of 27 mg/Kg, and this toxin has been detected in blood of non-pregnant women, pregnant women and their fetuses in Canada, supposedly exposed through diet [34]. These data, as well as increased bioavailability of these MCA in the environment, reinforce the need for more research, especially given that little is known about spore crystals’ adverse effects on non-target species (1)
Dr. Mezzomo and his team are not the only group of scientists to discover the harmful effects of Bt toxins. Professor Joe Cummins, Professor Emeritus of Genetics at the University of Western Ontario has also studied it (2)(3)(4). He concluded that that there is sufficient evidence that the Bt toxin will impact directly on human health through damaging the ileum, which is the final section of the small intestine that is responsible for the absorption of vitamin B12. He also points out that the Bt cry toxin gene has not been proven to be the same as the natural bacterial gene. As mentioned in the first paragraph, it occurs naturally in the environment, usually isolated from soil, insects and plant surfaces.

It seems that everyday brings forth new information regarding GMO’s. We have so much evidence that points to just how harmful these foods are, yet they continue to be mass produced and the corporations that develop them are constantly protected. The truth still remains, you still have a choice as to what you put into your body. I encourage everybody reading this to further their research, most ‘industries’ we have on the planet today really aren’t necessary, we are just made to believe that they are.

What Monsanto does and is still doing is planting genetically modified fields in a state, county or country. It's inevitable that through cross pollination by insects that those modified genes eventially end up in all seed crops, including crops that farmers don't want modified. Then Monsanto goes in, takes samples and tests them and behold..find thier genes have migrated to the previously unmodified field. Monsanto then files suit because some unsuspecting farmer has had his seed crop corrupted and that crop has Monsantoes patented genes. The farmer loses all rights to his own seed, sometimes he loses his farm, and the farms are forever shackled to Monsanto. This is one of the first things US corporates did in Afghanistan. Prohibit Afghans from growing their own seed crops.

More simply put, it's as if you were manufacturing widgets, and some scoundrel comes into your plant and puts another brands sticker on your widgets and then sues you for infringement.

Monsanto is also making plants that produce sterile seed, so no farmer can grow his own. As soon as that stuff gets pollinated around, the entire world will be dependent on Monsanto for crop seed. This is capitalism at it's most corrupt.

A rather transparent weak wristed attempt at Misinformation
The article I submitted has nothing whatsoever to do with proprietary information

It has to do with the marketing of Poisons & the resultant Diseases contracted
.............. by the consumption of those Poisons by an unsuspecting citizenry

A citizenry not allowed access to the Info that would be provided by the proper Labeling of these filthy products

    Further:

Monsantos develops crops so that it can be the only one who can sell the chemicals to treat those crops.

When you push crops and the Earth past the point where they can grow in a reasonable way, you are creating a genetic Frankenstein, just waiting to kill the villagers.

But Americans will put anything into their body. They guzzle High Fructose Death, everyday.

Monsanto and similar companies are destroying biodiversity in agriculture. We certainly need strict regulations of genetic engineering industry. Greed rules in our country, but there is a hope that some other government's may stop this destructive activities. This is nothing else but genetic pollution, as harmful as any other pollution.

Hmmmmmm. Monsanto could make big, big bucks if it could only turn all that Ukrainian corn to GM.
Of course, they'd have to sow some seeds of discontent in Kiev, perhaps foment a riot or two, maybe even bring down the government and promote somebody GM friendly. Hmmmmmmmmmm
