Yep, none whatsoever obviously. And the "does what the bell tells me" bit (in your quote) is exactly what should have, and did happen. In the event of a fire alarm in his workplace the poster is perfectly at liberty to stick around and figure out what is, or is not, a genuine alarm. Be my guest.

In the event of a fire. Not an alarm. They went outside and saw no fire and say their watching the girl freeze like a moron. Is that what you do with your kids when the smoke alarm goes off? Is that what you would do?

    - - - Updated - - -

No fire. Stood and watched her freeze.

When evacuating a fire make sure not to let children freeze or run around in traffic. Oh also, because I am not a lemming, I can use common sense to look, see if there is a fire and smoke since I can stand outside and probably make a decision to grab something for the girl to wear. You know, common sense. Or put her in a car. Or give her some of my clothes. Like children knew to do.

If it was your kid and you were the teacher, you would have handled it exactly the same way huh?

Well the whole philosophy of fire evacuation is to remove the need for judgement from people not equipped to make them. The whole point of these evacuations is so when the professionals arrive they can deal with the issue of the fire and not have to spend valuable time in rescue and recovery

Switch over to Current Events. There you will find AGAIN what I am talking about. A 10 year old boy is suspended for making a gun with his fingers. Good heavens what a dastardly thing to do!!! If a teacher thinks that is so horrible, why didnt she settle the situation herself in about 90 seconds. Suspending the kid from school is off the chart in common sense and logic.

You prove logical's point don't you? That some "do as they are told even if it leads to bad consequences, and some people use their reasoning ability to assess the situation improvise and adapt" or whatever he said. You know the argument I am referring to.

Pondering this situation off line for a while, I thot about these questions:

Since no fire was visible why didnt the teacher that drug the girl out into sub zero temps let the girl grab her clothes, it would have taken all of 45 seconds?

This is Minn, right? Were there not teachers present that didnt have a blanket in their car? I carry a blanket in my car year around for emergencies.

Why did the poor girl have to stand around so long that she got frost bitten feet before at least one brave teacher said the hell with "rules" and let the girl get in her car?

Will there be a teachers meeting to tell all those ignorant teachers their first duty is to protect their students.

Will the girls famly sue? They should!!! Maybe a large settlement might slap some commone sense into the school board!!!!

And lastly why is it that liberals like the ones here in this forum always defending stupid ignorant people??? Birds of a feather??????

Oh good grief. Is she disabled for life; has she suffered an irreversible trauma? No, she was removed, properly and immediately as fire regulations dictate, from a place of potential danger from death to a place of safety. And you're whining that she got cold feet and act as though a frostbitten toe is a life-threatening condition. A little perspective and sense of proportion might be appropriate.

She was told to do that in the case of gun play at school by trained professionals, so it must be the right thing to do.

    - - - Updated - - -

Let it be your frost bitten kid before you complain about the mother. Who hasn't sued yet by the way, she just complained to the district.

One more question. It was stated that a teacher finally gave the girl her coat. Strange--------------------------------in this fire emergency why did the teacher have time to get HER coat, but the almost naked girl wasnt allowed to get her clothes??

Yes, you do nothing until the fire department has arrived, checked the premises and advised that it is safe to return. Just about every fire regulation in every country contains advice as follows in my example. Read the first:
    http://safetycounts.berkeley.edu/content/what-do-case-fire-0

A couple of frostbitten toes or potential death by fire. You choose.

"Take ALL fire alarms seriously and leave the building immediately. Do not stop"

Pretty sure that it was because a fire alarm was going off.

Now I realize this is somehow, in some odd way, connected to teachers' unions, but fire alarms often indicate such things as, get ready for it, fires.

Oh dear god. Perhaps because the teacher already was wearing a coat? Do you think that might be a possibility?

Well I would hate to burn toast at your house. We would all be sitting outside looking at the house waiting for the fire department. Neighbors laughing, kids freezing, dog would probably steal my toast in the confusion.

Weak argument on your part. IF the teacher was wearing a coat, then it must have been to cold in the school for the children. Child abuse by the school and it admin possibly?????

Defending ignorance and stupidity is really dumb in the first place.

Child abuse now? Give it a rest mate; this is getting ridiculous. And you want to talk about "really dumb"...
Tell us what's "really dumb" about following fire regulations. I wait in anticipation of yet another deeply thought-out response from you. You are truly an inspiration.

Obviously you didn't read the story. The girl was a high school student (in other words, pretty much close to her adult size).

I can't understand why the locker room was locked. Around here, SOP is not to lock the doors during a fire alarm.

I also don't understand why the girl wasn't immediately put in a sheltered area--like the elementary school across the street (according to parent's statement in the National Review article).

Fire doors close automatically, and only allow exit from a building, not entrance. The idea is to prevent folks from rushing into burning buildings and to slow the spread of the fire.

Only in your mind - In everyone elses you work for the best outcome. In this case we had a student who could die in a fire or suffer from a mild case of frost bite. Even at its most extreme, she might have lost a couple of toes as opposed to the potential loss of life.
