You do realize that deductibles are set by insurance companies, right. Higher deductibles have always been a way to reduce premiums at the expense of protection. You may have even noticed that you have the same choices on homeowners and car insurance.

Rick Perry’s Absurd Healthcare Claim: Texans Like Being Uninsured!

    http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/rick-perrys-absurd-healthcare-claim-texans-being-uninsured

With 22 percent of residents uninsured, the Lone Star State bears the dubious distinction of having the nation’s highest rate of people without health insurance, but former Texas Governor Rick Perry wears that ranking as a badge of honor.

Appearing in the Granite State ahead of a potential 2016 bid for president, Perry told the New Hampshire Journal that Texans like their lack of healthcare quite well, thank you very much — and please serve that with a side of freedom fries.

“Texas has been criticized for having a large number of uninsured,” Perry said. “But that’s what Texans wanted. They did not want a large government program forcing everyone to purchase insurance.”

While Perry’s political base may be perfectly content to scrap the Affordable Care Act and its individual mandate, the governor conveniently glided over his role in denying coverage to 1.5 million Texans — with a median income of $833 — when he rejected Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion funds. Under Texas’ stringent Medicaid rules, non-disabled parents must earn less than 19 percent of the poverty level — an estimated $4,500 for a family of four — to gain coverage under the program.

By contrast, Kentucky is THRIVING under Obamacare:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...medicaid-expansion-showing-benefits/23328607/

One year after it was enacted, Kentucky's Medicaid expansion is benefiting patients and health care providers — and is expected to generate jobs and economic growth that will more than offset $1.1 billion in state costs through 2021, according to a state study released Thursday.

The expansion, which enrolled 375,000 people in the health care program for the poor and disabled last year, is now projected to create 40,000 jobs and add $30 billion to the economy in the next six years — more than initially predicted.

Commissioned by the state, the analysis by Deloitte Consulting and the University of Louisville found that added taxes, revenue and cost savings will generate a net budget gain of nearly $820 million for state and local governments over that time.

Gov. Steve Beshear said the study shows the expansion is leading thousands of formerly uninsured residents to seek preventative services and care for conditions from diabetes to substance abuse, while reducing uncompensated care in hospitals and raising medical provider revenues.

    RELATED: Read the whole study

"For all the naysayers who claimed that expanding Medicaid was a budget-busting boondoggle, take a look at the facts," Beshear said. "It's working, and it's literally paying off. The state is saving money, hospitals are earning more, and our people are getting healthier."

But critics remained skeptical. Jim Waters, president of the Bluegrass Institute, a conservative think tank, said that with future revenues and growth far from certain, it was too early to declare the "bloated program" a success.

"I think it's way too rosy of an assessment," he said.

The anticipated study marked the first look at the impact of the hotly debated expansion in one of the nation's unhealthiest and poorest states. The results were being closely watched by supporters and critics, who have warned that the costs could weigh down state budgets.

“For all the naysayers who claimed that expanding Medicaid was a budget-busting boondoggle, take a look at the facts. It's working, and it's literally paying off. The state is saving money, hospitals are earning more, and our people are getting healthier.”
    Ky. Gov. Steve Beshear
After a 2012 Supreme Court ruling made it optional, Kentucky became one of 28 states to expand Medicaid eligibility to 138% of the federal poverty level, bringing coverage to singles making less than $16,000 a year and families of four earning no more than $32,900. Previously, the program focused on low-income residents who were elderly, disabled, minors or pregnant.

Although fully funded by the federal government for three years, Kentucky will have to start bearing a small share starting in 2017 that will grow to 10% by 2020.

Medicaid was already one of the state's highest expenses at $1.5 billion in 2013-14, and some Republican lawmakers have said they worry it could curb funding for other programs. The potential costs have helped scuttle expansion efforts in other states.

Beshear based his expansion decision in part on an analysis that predicted it would offset costs by generating $802 million in new revenue by 2021 and 17,000 new jobs — while reducing unreimbursed hospital costs and increasing preventative care.

On Thursday he said the study not only bore that out but showed that the benefits were projected to be greater than initially thought.

The study found the enrollment more than doubled what was predicted, particularly in Eastern Kentucky, and projected that the population of newly eligible recipients would reach 446,114 by 2021.

That helped reduce Kentucky's uninsured rate from 20% in 2013 to less than 12% last year, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, the report noted.

In terms of budget impact, state budget director Jane Driskell said savings and new revenue from the expansion's economic activity would be almost double the state's $247 million costs for the expansion in fiscal years 2017-18.

That offsetting revenue and savings come from higher income, payroll and sales taxes and other areas, such as shifting more state-borne costs — such as providing health care for prisoners — to the U.S. government.

"This speaks directly to critics' concerns about affording Medicaid expansion," Beshear said.

Contrary to the lies of the far right, ACA is saving money and lives every day! :flagus:

So what is your point. You agree that even though health insurance companies offer lower premiums(Maybe) on the exchange, they can legally re-coop the cost of the lower premium by increasing deductibles, out of pocket, co-payments and fewer providers and covered benefits? If that is your point, I agree. And, that is the problem with the PPACA as written.

11.4 Million People Signed Up For Obamacare In 2015

    Source: TPM

The White House announced on Tuesday that 11.4 million people signed up or re-enrolled in health insurance through the federal exchange during the 2015 enrollment period.

On the last day of the enrollment period, on Feb. 15, HealthCare.gov saw its biggest enrollment day ever.

About 7 million people signed up for health insurance during the 2014 enrollment period.

President Obama made the announcement in a video posted on Facebook.

"It gives you some sense of how hungry people were out there for affordable, accessible health insurance. And that’s really the top line message. The Affordable Care Act is working," he said about the 2015 enrollment numbers.

Dear Dems. You should be proud as hell of Obamacare. Here's 19M reasons why...

Obamacare Will Cover About 19 Million People This Year

    —By Kevin Drum
    | Wed Feb. 18, 2015 4:52 PM EST

With the signup deadline now past, we have a pretty good idea of how many people will be getting health care coverage via Obamacare in 2015. Here's a rough estimate:

+11.4 million: confirmed signups for private coverage.
-1.8 million: likely attrition rate (nonpayers, dropped coverage, etc.)
+9 million: covered via Medicaid expansion

The Medicaid number will rise throughout the year, and is higher if you use a looser way of counting. Needless to say, it would also be higher if all the holdout states joined in. For now, though, using a strict count just through February, the Obamacare total stands at about 18.6 million people—and will likely rise a bit more thanks to state extensions of the deadline. So call it 19 million or so.

That's a lot of people. If you got into politics to help actual people with actual problems, you should be damn proud of voting for the Affordable Care Act in 2010. No other legislation of at least the past two decades even comes close to its real-world impact.

THOUSANDS OF LIVES SAVED THANKS TO OBAMACARE!!!!!!!!!!!

ACA is continuing to save lives every day.

So much better than the 45,000 dead Americans per year under your party's created holocaust.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/...-the-myth-that-Obamacare-is-a-job-nbsp-killer

The number one, all-time favorite refrain of Republicans against Obamacare is that it's such a huge burden on the nation's employers that it's a "job killer." The nation's employers don't see it that way.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—otherwise known as Obamacare—is putting such a small dent in the profits of U.S. companies that many refer to its impact as "not material" or "not significant," according to a Bloomberg review of conference-call transcripts and interviews with major U.S. employers.
That's even after a provision went into effect this year requiring companies with 50 or more full-time workers to provide coverage, and after more workers are choosing to enroll in existing company coverage because of another requirement that all Americans get insured.

"It's just part of doing business," said Bob Shearer, chief financial officer of VF Corp., which owns the North Face and Vans apparel brands. "Obamacare has added costs, but not so much that we felt we had to talk about it specifically."

Among those companies whose profits have been not at all threatened by the law are Chipotle, which will spend less than 1 percent of its projected operating profit for this year to cover more than 1,000 employees, and Walmart, which will spend about 0.1 percent of its annual revenue on insuring its workers. That's about 1.8 percent of its operating profit. That's hardly threatening the health of either company.
That could be one of the reasons business is sitting out the King v. Burwell case. Remember the first Supreme Court attack on the law? It came from the National Federation of Independent Businesses, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce filing briefs in support of the challenge. The handful of briefs filed by business this time around are mostly from the healthcare industry, and in support of the government, because the law has actually been good for them. Turns out, a nation of people who have health insurance and aren't being bankrupted by medical costs buy stuff, support businesses, maybe eat out once in a while. That's always good for the bottom line.

Every REAL patriotic appreciates this great TRUTH.
