More than half of Russia's youth would emigrate.

Well. The social safety net in Russia is but non-exsting, the infrastructure outside of 100 top cities is not there, true. But the corruption levels in both countries are off the charts and there are more similarities between both countries and especially both peoples than one would care to admit.

Other than that, one’s life is what one made of it.

Have you ever been to Russia?
Their corruption is like at a stratosphere. To get a degree in university you need to bribe instructors. To get a cleaning contract in Moscow Metro you must kick back about 55% of the value of the contract. To get a good job you must know someone in a position of power. Many Uzbeks that travel to Russia work in near slavery conditions - live in basements of large apartment buildings where they are allowed to be out only during specific period of. They aren’t even allowed to reproduce. And all of that is covered up by local cops.
Russia is corrupt to the core. They think it’s normal now.

Oh puuulease. I've been there several times. Uzbeks are illegal aliens and if they choose to go to Russia to work it's because 'slavery conditions' in Russia are better than 'non-slavery conditions' in Uzbekistan. Your post is 99.5% bullshit. If you would have made the same post claiming it was Ukraine, it would be half right. There are a lot of Vietnamese and Armenian illegals too. FYI.

That is because technically they are illegal - not legally allowed to be there, although the authorities often will look the other way, or intentionally don't make it a priority to round them up. They are only temporary workers, and will probably only be there for a couple of years, so it's not like it's real slavery.
Well that's a good thing, isn't it? We wouldn't want children growing up in those conditions, or for a permanent population to be establishing itself, living in those conditions.

Sadly, Americans are not that curious and adventurous en-masse. Did you know, a stunning 40% of Americans have never been outside of the USA and even more stunning - 32% of Americans do not own travel luggage!

America is a pretty big and geographically diverse country.
Many Americans travel all over and never need to leave the country.

Heck, some parts of America are practically like being in another country, with the high amounts of immigration that country has taken in, and ethnic enclaves. Unlike in Europe, this is how it's been for a long time.
I went to one city where more than half the business signs were in Spanish, and none of the people looked American. About 40% of the radio stations played Spanish music. It was 105 miles from the border.

Frequently with next trip planned for the next week. So what?

Moscow and St. Petersburg are stunningly beautiful as well as dozens of other Russian cities. So, people "live in basements of large apartment buildings where they are allowed to be out only during specific period of"? BFD. Have you been to Frisco? I'd move to Russia before I move there.

Indeed. And travel being relatively inexpensive it's even more shocking to learn how many Americans have never been outside of their own state. But it is what it is.

You’d take Russia over San Francisco?
Do you know that those Russians who have money go to western countries to get treatment? Their education system is so corrupt, they know their universities spit out garbage. So, those who are more fortunate are well aware of that and prefer to pay than risk their lives.

To be fair, some of those states are the size of countries (Texas and California), and there are some vast distances involved. If you live in Kansas, it's going to be a very long drive until you get to a place that's very different from where you already are. To drive from the southern tip of California to the northern tip takes 14 hours. The majority of the residents in one half of the state have never been to the other half.

Also there are many rural parts of the country, and the people there can have a smaller worldview, and never see a reason to go anywhere else. For someone who has never been to an airport before, the process can be daunting. Especially these days with all the formidable security, and overcrowded lines.

Uzbeks are not illegal aliens there. They are legitimate workers, but they live in near slavery conditions.
Russia is extremely corrupt, for everything you do there you need patronage from police.

Why is that something so special.
Its a dictatorship with a one sided economy. If you are young and have some drive, you can not develop or make your dreams come true.
Naturally those young folks want to leave. I would to.
Find a country were I am allowed to work hard and make my dreams come true, were I can voice my opinion, were if I feel so can peaceful demonstrate without getting arrested.

Hell yea, get out of there.

If they stay over 90 days, they're illegal. Period. Only Belarusians and South Ossetians have 100% freedom of movement.

I can stay 360 days a year in Russia legally.

Most of the Imperial nobility is here and all of the Oligarchs, if they don't live here, at least have vacation homes. Go to any major city (or minor city, mine has a bunch of Russian Mob types) and you'll find Russian immigrants/snowbirds.

Probably the USA or Western Europe (France, either Paris or some resort city in the French South, and London).

Because the Russians aren't worried about too many illegal Americans staying.
Not many Americans would want to give up their life in the US for Russia.

If Russia had a warmer climate you'd be surprised how many people would consider it as an alternative if **** hits the fan here.

FYI Russians can stay here 180 days at a time too. We have a reciprocal agreement with Russia. I guess the U.S. government isn't worried about Russians staying either.

There's a lot of business opportunity in Russia right now.

Like @Dutch mentioned, there are certain cities in the U.S. that I much rather move to Russia than stay in.
