Moscow came out with a full report on the shoot down of the Russian aircraft, and it doesn't look good for Israel. The report is disconcerting to the Russian government and its people since it shows they lack the same respect towards Russian lives, as Russia has shown towards the lives of the Israelis - even to the extent that Russia wouldn't sell Assad the S-300's since they would have endangered Israel.

Israel had notified Russia only 25 times, even though its jets carried out more than 200 strikes in Syria over the past 18 months alone; yet Russia has sent as many as 310 notifications to the Israeli Air Force Command. But then again maybe the problem is that Moscow didn't react more harshly before, and it's being perceived as a weakness rather than a concern towards Israeli lives. But as Putin once said, a spring can be pushed only so much before it springs back - and it is going to spring back.

Anyway what's Israel's game, and why did they coordinate the missile attack with a Nato country? Are they so gung ho for a war?

Here's a detailed account of the shoot down of the Russian plane.

Konashenkov said: "This is an extremely ungrateful response to all that has been done by the Russian Federation for Israel and the Israeli people recently,"

The report featured previously undisclosed radar data and details of communications between Russian and Israeli militaries, and concluded that "the military leadership of Israel either has no appreciation for the level of relations with Russia, or has no control over individual commands or commanding officers who understood that their actions would lead to tragedy."

This video and the bottom statement tells of everything Russia did for Israel, and how hard they tried to be friends with all sides.

"This is an extremely ungrateful response to all that has been done by the Russian Federation for Israel and the Israeli people recently," Konashenkov said.

1 -The Russian military worked with the Syrian military operation in the Golan Heights to "ensure there were no shelling attacks on Israeli territory" anymore, thus allowing the UN peacekeeping mission to resume patrolling of the contested border between Syria and Israel after "a six-year hiatus."

2- Russia also managed to secure the withdrawal of all Iran-backed groups from the Golan Heights to a "safe distance for Israel," more than 140 kilometers to the east of Syria, the spokesperson said, adding that this was done at the request of Tel Aviv. "A total of 1,050 personnel, 24 MLRSs and tactical missiles, as well as 145 pieces of other munitions and military equipment were withdrawn from the area," Konashenkov told journalists.

4- The Russian Defense Ministry had provided assistance in preserving Jewish sacred places and graves in the city of Aleppo. Putting Russian Special Forces soldiers' lives in danger, it also organized the search for the remains of some Israeli servicemen that died during the past conflicts in an area where the Syrian forces were combating Islamic State (IS, former ISIS) terrorists at that time.

5- Russia returned $400 million to Assad as a favor to Israel, since Russia's S-300 would have been able to cover all of Israel's airspace, and knock down the jets the minute they took off.

6- Russia has sent as many as 310 notifications to the Israeli Air Force Command, while the latter appeared to be reluctant to show the same level of commitment, notifying only 25 times even though its jets carried out more than 200 strikes against targets located in Syria over the past 18 months alone.

In view of the above, the hostile actions committed by the Israeli Air Force against the Russian Ilyushin Il-20 aircraft cross the line of civilized relations.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ! Just because Moskva comes with a "report" that does not mean there is even an iota of truth in it. Israel would not be stupid and shoot down a Russian aircraft.

The rumors or very likely lies told by Moskva that Russia was being "nice" to Israel and has done Israel favors is a joke. Moskva only does favors for Moskva.

It will be interesting to see if and how Moscow gets its revenge against Israel.

Within 2 weeks, Moscow will supply Syria with it's S-300 missile defense systems. From what I read, Russia did not supply them because they would have been able to cover all of Israel, and could hit the jets the minute they took off. The $400 million deposit given by Assad at the time, was returned.

I don't know what Israel's intent was, but it backfired.

In this video, Shoigu gives a detailed account of what Syria will be supplied with to insure that such an incident will not happen again.

    Key questions:
    1) Can we infer Russia will not target Israeli jets with S-300s "as long as" Israel does something before take-offs, like notifying the course?
    2) Could the downing of IL-20 be used as such a strong leverage against a country (Israel) which sees airstrikes in Syria vital for its existence -especially when there's no proof its jets had any responsibility in the incident?
    3) Does Syrian army have qualified personnel to handle S-300? If it does not, then how likely Russian personnel will be operating them? How would that effect the Israeli airstrikes in the future?
    4) If the answer to #2 is "no" then what purpose -other than mere intelligence collection safety- would Russia have by deploying longer range defense systems? How likely this purpose is "protecting terrorist groups hostile to Israel from Israel"?

Israel will be taking a risk if it tries to enter Syrian airspace without permission - or at least I think so.

Russia has given Israel enough guarantees for its safety. As for proof, unlike the US that gives none, Russia has presented a minute by minute detailed account:

The Israeli Air Force gave the Russian side less than a minute's warning before dropping the precision-guided glide bombs, leaving virtually no time for any safety maneuvers, Konashenkov said, calling such actions "a clear violation of the 2015 Russian-Israeli agreements."

Moreover, the Israeli military failed to provide the location of their jets or properly specify their targets, claiming they were going to attack several 'industrial facilities' in northern Syria, close to the Il-20’s area of operation. The misinformation prompted the Russian Command to order the recon plane back to the Khmeimim air base. The Israeli jets, however, instead almost immediately attacked the western Syrian Latakia province.

What difference does it make if Russian personnel are there or aren't there?

Here are the safe guards Russia has given Israel. It also has established posts with Chechnyan guards in Russian uniforms to insure that neither side attacks the other.

Their intent was to inflame tensions, escalate the conflict, and further destabilize the region.

Russia will be forced to react and their reaction will provide a pretext for further escalation from the west.

Promoting endless war, intrigue, and chaos is the name of the game.

I read that Putin came to an agreement with Netanyahu, and that they will work out the details. The only thing that seems possible to me, would be that Russia will be notified of any Iranian build up in Syria, and then it will be Russia's responsibility to crack down. Either that, or Israel will be given the leeway of bombing.

This would also relieve Assad of the duty, something he could not really do considering Iran's help in fighting terrorists.

I agree but what degree of risk would entering Syrian airspace be posing? I think given the fact that Russia is not owning any "sovereign" rights over Syrian airspace to ban any country entering, plus the fact that it protects Iranian jihadis whose only aim to destroy Israel, Russia's deployment of s300s is a mere deterrence that aims to limit the number of attacks against Iranian groups primarily because their numbers have been reducing by those attacks. Russia doesn't like that because it relies on Iranian groups' ground support in crucial areas where it's military existence would be risked otherwise. Therefore s300s would not pose grave risk to Israeli airforce.
Moreover we have seen what happened when Russia blocked a 3rd country by using the deterrence of its airdefenses in 2016 (Turkey-Karlov). Judging by the fact that Israel is seeing the air strikes as "at least" vital to its national security as Turkey back then was seeing, from Russia's standpoint such deployment will be ineffective. Ineffective moves = weakness. There's a term called "playing chicken" in game theory. If it comes down to that - which seems so- the backing party in that game will not be Israel (95%)

Jeannette, these are almost irrelevant to what we're discussing here. US does many things to support Israel on many different grounds that Russia can't imagine to have done with the kind of economy it has.
Your and your troll friends' absurd attempts to try to wrap Russia as a mediator of the sort that the US had been in the past is only getting funnier. IL 20 was downed by the Syrians who were operating the AD system. Israel did not shoot it down. So you guys should stop make it look like the same as USS liberty incident. You insist putting Russia at the center of your arguments ever since the incident took place then maybe you should provide a document that was signed by both Assad and Putin that shows the Syrian government completely hands over its sovereign rights to Russia.

I'm not sure. But there might be some directly effecting the outcomes of actions.
Suppose Syrian personnel were employed to operate the system. I think a downing of Israeli jet would easily be blamed on the under qualified Syrian personnel and that would reduce repercussions for Russia. That's why I think if Russia ever wants to deter Israel with those s300 then it is likely that it keeps Syrian personnel.

Again, this is not an answer to the part of my post you quoted up there. Let me remind you what I posted:

    4) If the answer to #2 is "no" then what purpose -other than mere intelligence collection safety- would Russia have by deploying longer range defense systems? How likely this purpose is "protecting terrorist groups hostile to Israel from Israel"?

    I respond it anyways;
Israel thinks Russia cannot be trusted because Russia supports Iranian jihadis.
So Russia's supposed safe guards don't mean much to Israel but just another bureaucratic paper designed to be breached legally.

I don't know how that seems possible to any rational person given the fact Israel's airstrikes are in vital importance to its national security, meaning that Israel has all the reasons for not trusting Russia who has been supporting Iranian jihadi factions in Syria. So there's no way Israel will inform Russia of Iranian jihadi build ups that it sees as a direct threat to its own existence. Expecting Russia will be clearing out its allied jihadi terrorists in Syria upon the request of Israel is absurd.

Oh thanks for leeway : )

How does Iran help in fighting terrorists ?

Good grief this is a mindless and brain dead response. No one has claimed that Israel shot down a Russia aircraft.
