Your history work on Herodotus is good work, yes.

The main criticism of him is that he did not interview any PRIMARY sources -- no eye witnesses.

He just went around collecting stories of his times from various other people then he retold them.

Technically that is NOT "history" it is just entertainment, rumor, and gossip.

Ironically we have found out that a lot of what he told us has been otherwise confirmed.

    Nobody interviewed Leonidas.

We can only put ourselves in his shoes and determine what we would have done in the same situation and therefore speculate what Leonidas might have done.

I am a 64 year old veteran U.S. Marine. I know what I would have done.

Stanley Kubrick's "Spartacus" was more to my liking. "I'm Spartacus!"

"Make Way for Tomorrow" - poem

    A man and a maid stood hand in hand;

bound by a tiny wedding band.

Before them lay the uncertain years

that promised joy and, maybe tears.

"Is she afraid?" thought the man of the maid.

"Darling," he said in a tender voice,

"Tell me. Do you regret your choice?

'We know not where the road may wind,

'or what strange byways we may find.

'Are you afraid?" said the man to the maid.

She raised her eyes and spoke at last.

"My dear," she said, "the die is cast.

'The vows have been spoken. The rice has been thrown.

'Into the future we’ll travel alone.

'With you," said the maid, "I’m not afraid."

Actually, that movie, "Woman Wanted" is about a woman who was convicted of murder. She was set up by the mob. The man is an attorney and helps her to clear herself, but falls in love with her along the way.

She was innocent and facing the death penalty.

"The Richest Girl in the World", is about a woman who is extremely wealthy and cannot seem to find a suitable man she can trust. She believes it is her wealth and pretends to be a secretary. She does everything to destroy the interest of the man who wants her with "tests" any man would find too much to handle. The ending is a heartwarming surprise.

Make way for tomorrow is as relevant today as it was then. Well, I think. It's about an old retired couple who loses their home due to a lack of retirement money. Their children don't want to care for both of them under the same roof and split the apart to live in separate residences. They've been married many years and love each other dearly. Their passion and love shows through as they date each other to spend time together, knowing they are nearing the end of life. It's sad, heartwarming, and always relevant. Yeah, I'm a bit of a romantic.

Wish I had a romantic woman to spend time with watching those. I haven't found one. Most want to watch some woman warrior or stalwart defender of women's justice, rather than something real and personal, challenging and contemplative of the interactions of two in life and love.

Meh, better off alone, I think.

My wife and I watched "The Court Jester" the other night and loved it. Truly a timeless classic.

“All Quiet on the Western Front”

For its age, it’s still one of the best quality movies ever created.

I have found that men are often far more romantic than women.
