Would love to hear from our theists on this juicy morsel!

What is your position on god's wife (so to speak)?
    Do you deny she existed?
Do you then regard the biblical reference as a lie?
If you take her seriously, what/who was she? Was she human? Was she a god? Does she still exist? What powers does she have? Do she and Yaz have sex? Why is an incorporeal being married? It reeks of human needs, so what gives? And where did she come from? Was there a choice of brides there, at the time Yaz selected her? Or did she select him? If there were other godly brides, what does this do to the idea of one god?

    Enquiring cranks need to know!

Science once believed that there was an element called “aether” out of which the stars were made. Does that mean everything astrology tells us must be wrong?

See: it’s utterly normal that human ideas develop over time, and religious ideas develop just as much as any others.

So the people who we now call the ancient Israelites over time moved from a polytheistic belief (in which the God Yahweh had a companion called Asherah) to a monotheistic belief, for which modern Abrahamic religions now have rather philosophical theologies. Part of this progress can be seen in the writings of the OT.

    What’s the big deal?

It's a 'big deal' because I've never met a Christian who acknowledged her. Nir have I ever seen her mentioned by a Christian (other than as you have done, dismissively). Or rather, the big deal is in how you guys find a work-around for such an inconvenient biblical 'truth'.

I appreciate your input, but your explanation reads as apologia. As though the word of god (allegedly eternal and unchanging) can be changed with every new idea that humans have. If this is the case, there can be little left of God's word after 2000 years. And who'd know the apples from the eggs?

While there might be references to a She-god in the Bible, it would require a reading of secondary sources to flesh it out. It's too much to ask of any American Christian, to read the Bible. :blankstare:

    apparently so.

but as regards those who know of her (Mrs Yaz), where might they put that piece of information? As in, how are they able to carry on pretending she didn't exist, while knowing she did? And again, how do they explain god having a missus?

as an aside, I can imagine all sorts of celestial domestic fun. Is she a nag? Does she cook? Is she smarter than god? Can she change a tyre? Did they have any kids (apart from the one god had with his extramarital fling, Mary)?

I'm sure if christians made up a female god she would definitely be subservient and "less than" a male god as an example for modern day women in case they get uppity and think they're equal. .

I always wondered why god was seen as male but then realized it's because , duh(head slap), MEN wrote the bible...

Now I ponder why a god needs to have a sex......but I ponder lots of silly things....:)

A near death experiencer named Aurora Ray reported that she was shown that there are 14 Elohim…… seven male…. seven female. Apparently these correspond with the "Seven Spirits of G-d."

She stated that all human souls can be traced back to one of these 14 Elohim………… this could help to explain the tradition about Lucifer/ Iblis/ Satan being asked to bow to Adam?!

Except that near death experiences aren't proof of anything....even if you insist they're proof of everything.

Christian Adreason reports that duirng his NDE he got the distinct impression that the person who Christians call the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit is none other than God the Mother!!!???

"Proof" is a very strong term…………. I am quite happy with using "evidence" for what I find in these accounts!

And I'm quite happy knowing there are elves dancing around in my garden so I guess we're even on "proof" and evidence...

I'm curious, do you ever form an opinion on a subject WITHOUT referring to near death experiences???

Actually……. there is a group of psychics in northern Scotland who stated that fairies were assisting them to grow huge vegetables in what would appear to be terrible conditions. They were close to the Arctic Circle!

Not only is our earth teeming with life but apparently so is fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth dimensional space - time?!

I can't remember there being any NDE accounts in this particular book?!

About the near death experience. You know that a chemical called DMT is a naturally occurring chemical in your brain?

    What is DMT?

DMT is the name for the hallucinogenic drug Dimethyltryptamine. It comes from plants in the Amazon which can be boiled to make a potent brew or ground to make a powder. It’s also made synthetically in the UK and comes in yellow crystals or powder.

    Why do people take DMT?

In short, to trip their brains out. People who smoke DMT are rapidly propelled into an intense alternative reality.

Users have described seeing the face of God, visiting other worlds and having conversations with aliens. A common experience is of visiting a desert populated by large grey owls and of being able to speak to them in an unknown language.

The trip doesn’t last long, but it’s about as intense as you can get.

What are the bad side effects?

If you have a ‘bad trip’, i.e. your brain takes you to a place you don’t like, the experience can be utterly petrifying. You’re thrown into a terrifying-yet-believable roller coaster of hallucinations and you’re powerless to stop it. Some users claim they thought they’d gone to hell.

    Other complications include:

You’re often completely incapacitated and unable to move

It comes on so fast it can feel extremely overwhelming

If you’re totally convinced by your hallucinations, you might do something stupid or dangerous

    Uncomfortable feelings in your stomach
    Increased heart rate and bloodpressure

    Dilated pupils

Flashbacks of your life (which can be great or traumatic, depending on your life)

Problems returning to ‘normality’ after an intense trip

How long do the effects last for?

DMT hits you almost instantly, usually within 10(*)–60 seconds. If you smoke it, the trip lasts around 5–20 minutes. If you snort or drink it, the effects can last longer.

Lingering effects and a general feeling of weirdness can last for a few hours, and some people have unsettling thoughts for several days afterwards.

    What’s the comedown like?

The trip usually ends abruptly, like reality has just decided to drop you off onto the kerb. Some people take days to recover and find themselves anxious, unable to sleep, and can’t concentrate on ‘normal life’ because they’re so preoccupied with what happened to them.

Can DMT affect your mental health?

Some people find just one experience of DMT has a lifelong impact on their mental health. Some experience ‘flashbacks’ of the time they were on the drug. Others have even found it impossible to ever ‘return to normal’ after such a powerful trip.

Most importantly, anyone with a predisposition to mental health problems can find DMT ignites the bad feelings and sets them loose.

That's why near deat experiences arn't proof

When near death their brain releases DMT. Their near death experience is nothing but a trip induced by MDT

I imagine Mrs. Yaz would be a nag, she would only be able to cook spaghetti, she'd have a little lap dog that every time he barks it causes global warming, she'd be addicted to Valium, and she would begrudgingly baby sit his baby son from his fling with that floozy down on earth. :blankstare:

She was considered a goddess of fertility and was associated with snakes

It funny then that it would be a "snake" that tempted eve.

Satan was often called "the most beautiful angel"

I wouldn't be surprised if Mrs. Yaz was Satan. Maybe she was like prometheus. Instead of fire it's knowledge.

Wonder why she was vanquished? Originally, that is. Not the 'expunged from MY bible' vanquished apparently practiced by the modern christian.

So every Chinese person has a 'soul' descended from obscure middle eastern deities dreamed up by desert goat herders?

Mr and Mrs Yah were leaders of the Elohim, and parents of Baal the Storm God, who was given such a bad press in the Bible though the relationship wasn't mentioned

I think that probably the patriarchs didn't want women to have any power or independence.. Seems like the age old problem that drove witch hunts etc.

a philandering god, then? or just 'much married', after the Hollywood fashion?

or perhaps he was a polygamist god! imagine that warms the cockles of certain fundie groups, and mortifies others (waves at Dave).
