And I have no conceit over my accident of birth. I am simply recognizing that different races have different strengths and weaknesses. Blacks are marvelously adapted to live in an illiterate and low tech environment. Whites are adapted to live in a literate and high tech environment.

Refusing to recognize this fact results in futile and even counterproductive social policies.

There is more than P.R. symbolism behind a letter delivered to major media outlets, signed by the leaders of 47 organizations. Major outlets are being placed on legal notice that use of the Southern Poverty Law Center as an arbiter of hate group status, including use of its notorious "hate map," may lead to liability through recklessness and defamation, among other possibilities.
The game that the SPLC and its media enablers have played is to brand utterly nonviolent law firms and think-tanks as "hate groups," the same label it uses for neo-Nazis and violent extremist groups that are white. The letter cites but one of a number of attacks in which the SPLC Hate Map played a role.
Take a look at the language in the first paragraphs.

The SPLC is a discredited, left-wing, political activist organization that seeks to silence its political opponents with a "hate group" label of its own invention and application that is not only false and defamatory, but that also endangers the lives of those targeted with it.
The fifth anniversary has just passed of the terrorist event for which the SPLC's hate map and website were used to target its victims for political assassination. The following facts were established in the record of a federal court case. On August 15, 2012, Floyd Lee Corkins II entered the Family Research Council offices in Washington, D.C. and shot and badly wounded its building manager, Leo Johnson, who stopped his intended killing spree.1 According to his own statements to the FBI, Corkins intended to kill everyone in the building, and then go on to terrorize additional organizations.
That day, Corkins carried both the means to carry out this act of terrorism and a list of additional targets. The U.S. Attorney stated in federal court that Corkins targeted FRC and the additional targets by using the SPLC website's "Hate Map." On February 6, 2013, Corkins pleaded guilty to three felonies, and became the first person convicted of violating the District of Columbia's Anti-Terrorism Act of 2002.2
We believe the media outlets that have cited the SPLC in recent days have not intended to target mainstream political groups for violent attack, but by recklessly linking the Charlottesville melee to the mainstream groups named on the SPLC website – those that advocate in the courts, the halls of Congress, and the press for the protection of conventional, Judeo-Christian values – we are left to wonder if another Floyd Lee Corkins will soon be incited to violence by this incendiary information.

The SPLC is an arm of the Socialist Marxist leftist terrorist network, and needs to be exposed and brought to heel. A blizzard of libel and slander charges and lawsuits would be a good start.

Now the SPLC is a group that definitely deservers the attention of the FBI. The SPLC and Morris Dees should be under criminal investigation. Just for starters, they are slandering and libeling people and defaming their character, simply because "they say so." That's actionable. Second, their hiding of millions of dollars overseas is highly questionable.

Well, if you want to have an intelligent discussion you do. People are often called upon to justify their declarations of sodomy to be immoral, for instance.

The Pentagon has officially severed all ties to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) after previously relying on the group’s training materials on extremism.

Brian J. Field, assistant U.S. attorney from the Civil Division, stated that the Department of Defense (DOD) Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity removed any and all references to the SPLC in training materials used by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), in an email obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation from the Department of Justice.

The DEOMI is a DOD school founded to fight segregation and inequality that teaches courses in racial, gender and religious equality, among other subject areas like equal opportunity and pluralism. The courses are available to DOD civilians and service members.

As part of a response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from the Immigration Reform Law Institute, Field wrote in the email sent in late September:

Additionally, the DEOMI office informed me that, based on a previous FOIA request, DEOMI records concerning, regarding, or related to the preparation and presentation of training materials on hate groups or hate crimes were forwarded … That 133-page document did reference the SPLC; however, based upon guidance from the Office of Diversity Management and Equal Opportunity, all references to the SPLC have been removed from any current training.
Interestingly, DEOMI still makes use of materials on “Hate Symbols” from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a group similar to the SPLC. Students at DEOMI use the Hate Symbols reference on the ADL site to “learn more about gang colors or clothing; hate group tattoos and body markings associated with such gangs.”

As a matter of policy, the DOD does not have an official list of hate groups.

In early 2014, the Pentagon told CNS News that while it would remove information on hate groups provided by the SPLC, it would continue to rely on SPLC data in “non-federal reference material” for DEOMI. It appears that the DOD’s DEOMI has now decided to sever ties with the SPLC, as DEOMI is the only sub-branch of the Pentagon with any records of SPLC materials.

The Pentagon’s decision to terminate its relationship with the SPLC comes at a time when the group has under major fire from conservative organizations, particularly in the form of lawsuits. D. James Kennedy Ministries, a Christian ministry from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., recently sued the SPLC after being labeled a hate group. The SPLC has also faced criticism from liberals. In late August, anti-Muslim extremism activist and feminist Ayaan Hirsi Ali argued in The New York Times that “the S.P.L.C. is an organization that has lost its way, smearing people who are fighting for liberty and turning a blind eye to an ideology and political movement that has much in common with Nazism.”

For Ali, corporations and donors in Hollywood “need to find more trustworthy and deserving partners to work with than the SPLC.”

Notably, the Pentagon is not the only federal agency to drop the SPLC.

In February, The Daily Caller News Foundation published an exclusive piece indicating that the FBI, which formerly used the SPLC as a “hate crimes resource,” has also been distancing itself from the group.

The SPLC did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Caller News Foundation by press time.

Fake News From the SPLC
A church fire started by a congregant isn’t an example of ‘hate.’

‘The incident was just a harbinger of what has become a national outbreak of hate, as white supremacists celebrate Donald Trump’s victory,” the Southern Poverty Law Center proclaimed in a November 2016 report titled “Ten Days After: Harassment and Intimidation in the Aftermath of the Election.”

As the SPLC described the incident: “Just a week before the November 8th election, attackers set a church in Greenville, Mississippi, on fire. The historically black church was targeted in what authorities believe was an act of voter intimidation, its walls spray-painted with the phrase ‘Vote Trump.’ ”

But the SPLC’s “harbinger” turned out to be fake news. Three weeks after the center issued its report, police arrested a member of the vandalized church, Andrew McClinton, and charged him with arson. According to the Washington County Circuit Clerk’s office in Greenville, Mr. McClinton has been indicted and is awaiting a trial date. The state fire marshal told the Associated Press in December he did not believe the crime was “politically motivated.”

Although the December 2016 arrest was widely reported at the time, the SPLC did not update or correct its report until I called it to their attention this week. What’s more, it was still promoting the false story on Twitter as recently as Sept. 25. And at press time it has yet to update two earlier pieces on the incident, one reporting it the day after it occurred and the other calling on the governor to “condemn . . . race-based violence.”

The SPLC has recently come under fire for its tendency to focus on “hate” only when it comes from what the SPLC sees as the political right, and for false characterizations, such as its designation of the Family Research Council as a “hate group” or libertarian social scientist Charles Murray as a “white nationalist.”

But even journalists who criticize the SPLC for these smears have praised its tracking of real hate groups and reporting of hate incidents. The Washington Post’s Dave Weigel told me in March that he appreciates the SPLC’s tracking and profiling of extremist groups and uses the center’s website as a reference to gauge the prevalence or impact of extremist groups he runs across when researching stories.

Will the SPLC’s sloppiness—at best—in continuing to mischaracterize the Greenville incident as a hate crime lead journalists to reconsider? Mr. Weigel didn’t respond to an email request for a follow-up interview. But his newspaper hosts the “Ten Days After” report on its website, noting—under its “Democracy Dies in Darkness” banner—that “the Southern Poverty Law Center documented 867 bias-related incidents in the ten days after the election of Donald Trump.” Despite the Post’s own reporting of Mr. McClinton’s arrest, the report is presented in its original form, with no correction.

The Post is only one of scores of websites, including many news organizations, that have referenced the “Ten Days After” report in the months since it was published. The report was even cited in congressional testimony in May, long after Mr. McClinton’s arrest. Several books published in 2017 cite the report as a source. None of the references I reviewed note that the “hate incident” story has fallen apart.

I emailed the SPLC Thursday with a series of questions about the false report. Wendy Via, the center’s communications chief, responded: “I’m still not able to answer all of your questions going forward but wanted to thank you for bringing the need for a report update to our attention.”

Ms. Via added: “As you write about the SPLC, I urge you to also use the opportunity to shed light on the prevalence of hate incidents in our nation.” She also acknowledged that the SPLC’s reports “are anecdotal.”
