Muslim scholar denied soda on airplane

Is islamophobia getting out of control in America? Since right wing extremists have killed more americans since 9/11 why is there no hatred toward white Christians? Is this fear and discrimination justified?

I sympathize with that concern. Personally I worry that generalized leftist hatred for the United States of America is getting out of hand. But then again I figure that when a certain Political Messiah slithers out of office at the end of 2016 that should begin to ease some of those worries. Unfortunately I don't know what will end leftist angst over whatever it is that you are concerned about. Soda water, eh? A total tragedy! Perhaps things would be better for leftists if the United States were simply to bow down to Mecca and enact all variations of Sharia Law. Sweet!

A Muslim woman has alleged she was the victim of Islamophobia on a United Airlines flight when she was denied an unopened can of Diet Coke because it could be used as a “weapon”.

Tahera Ahmad, a chaplain at Chicago’s Northwestern University, requested a can of unopened Diet Coke for “hygiene reasons” but claimed she was refused because of apparent security concerns. But she complained moments later a man sitting next to her was given an unopened can of beer.​

I think it is out of control.

But to be fair, I've been denied an unopened can of juice when requesting a free drink. The concern wasn't that it could be used as a weapon, but cost reasons. They used to deny it because folks would request them, then pocket them. So they'd open the can to discourage folks from "taking one for the road." And now they do it to spread the free drinks farther.

On the other hand, if you buy alcohol — they'll sell you a whole six pack.

She said "apparent security concerns." Sounds like it might have been an assumption on her part and this might not be about security at all.

(Shrug) Insufficient information. Perhaps there are different in-flight rules for different types of beverages. Perhaps the woman is -- gasp! -- lying. Perhaps the flight attendant is shia whereas the woman is sunni (didn't think of that, did you?). Perhaps the flight attendant is -- ha! ha! -- Black. Insufficient information. So this incident is pretty much a fluff piece worthy of copious quantities of mockery, and little else.

why wasn't the airlines attendant name or race given out on the news? get it.. she wasnt even reprimanded doesn't this seem very odd?

 

When regarding the story of a Muslim woman being denied a pre opened soda in fear of her using it as a weapon on plane, I was not surprised at all. I believe that islamaphobia is very present in America especially after the 9/11 attacks. I believe that some people who are Muslim are peaceful and not deserving of the caution that is often surrounding them, however if you look at terrorist attacks many of them are perpetrated by Muslim extremists. Also, I believe the woman was making something out of nothing when she brought it under media attention. If she wanted an opened can of soda for sanitary purposes couldn't she have bought her own at the terminal before boarding the airplane?

Those in power think they have a strange color and practice a strange religion. Muslims will never have the same kind of rights as white Christians regardless of what the Constitution states.

 

If someone did try to use a soda can as a weapon, wouldn't that be fairly easy to fight off, as opposed to other things?

 

She strikes me as a drama queen. I have never been given an unopened can on an airplane (I've asked), and I'm your average white male.

 

Psssst . . . and what will you post if it turns out to be a Muslim flight attendant or a Black flight attendant or Asian or an EVIL White . . . Buddhist? Or if it turns out that the woman was simply w-r-o-n-g?

 

I have had bartenders/waitresses tell me that they could not serve me unopened bottles. I has not offended. Quite frankly, if someone told me they did not want a drink I had just opened for them for "hygiene reasons" I would tell them to take a flying leap. That the second post indicates that she feels that the airline is somehow responsible for passengers not standing up for her tells me she is, at the very least, is exaggerating her claims.

I suppose you could shake it up and spray it in someone's face. I had one laying on my truck seat explode once. Scared the crap out of me and my truck was permanently sticky after that, but I suppose it did have sort of a flashbang effect for a second or two.
