What would cause my feet to grow? I was a size 9 1/2 for forty years. During the last year, my feet have grown into a size 11. I'm healthy. I backpack long distances with heavy packs. I rock climb and kayak. My feet aren't swollen. They're not causing me any discomfort. I'm just really curious. Is this uncommon? I've never heard of someone's feet growing that much at fifty six years old.

I don't know what would cause your feet to grow as you get older. The thing I notice about my feet is they seem to have gotten farther from my hands in my old age.

My wife has to come up for air between tying her shoes.

I had the same problem. Because of that I had to discard a pair of Thompson's wing tipped shoes - classic men's footwear that aren't made any more.

I'm 84 and my shoe size has grown about 1/2 a size (10 1/2 - 11). Just a wild guess but maybe you're finally buying shoes the correct size that fit you properly.
