I’m wanting some input on my idea. I really don’t like a deficit and our national debt scares me. My idea is a requirement that corgress, and all of their employees, aides, etc payroll comes from last years budget surplus. We could put in place safety nets so our people don’t go without medical care or safety nets so families get three squares a day and have a roof. But send them a message that their income is dependent on a budget surplus. How long would it take to get this ship on an even keel? Sort of like a farmer has to live on the profits of last years harvest.
I like your sentiment, but the payroll idea isn't realistic. But more importantly, who do you mean by "we"?
Mike12 came up with a idea worth studying and so has Crownline. We are the public paying for government. We are not the illegals.
This wouldn't be difficult. They would just start slashing things, whichever is easiest, probably wouldn't even think about the repercussions. Social Security?.......forget em, lets get our checks first. You really think they would have a problem paying themselves?
Slashing is good. Social security is a scam that needs to end, and so does quite a lot of the federal government. I would advocate getting back on the gold standard. That accomplishes the same thing, and takes power away from the federal government to pay for all these stupid wars, which nobody wants. Sadly, the lefties would throw a hissie fit if they were told they can no longer borrow money that the children they didn't have can't possibly pay for. They love throwing children and the unborn into debt to pay for the stuff they want now. Personally, I don't mind them getting shafted, in the least. And a gold standard would utterly destroy them.
That’s why I say we put necessities first. Everything necessary is paid first. Their payroll is paid with the leftovers,
Cool idea, but a "career Congress" would never pass such a law. What we really need are term limits on members of congress. If we get people in Congress who are only going to be there for a short time, they are much more likely to want to do the right things, rather than to do nothing or the politically safe thing. Term limits would transform Congress for the better. Seth
Yeah, that was my thought while I was posting. But I think our elected officials should live off the crumbs of their efforts. We benefit first, them last.
You said " We could put in place safety nets..." "We" would have to first seize political control of the country and government. Good luck getting congress to put your safety nets in place. So "we" would not be able to do what you suggest. I was hoping you would see your error and switch to a discussion of how to get there, realistically. But if it were possible to get such a thing done, that same power could instead be used to compel this government to solve our other problems, like medical care. As to term limits, I think we've seen a glimpse of what happens when neophytes are elected to office. The political pressure I've just suggested would obviate term limits.
