Nor does he have to declare a National Emergency, that some liberal judge would block in the 9th Circuit.

While you're yapping about beating Trump, he will be building a fence using existing statutes and existing funding and there's not a damn thing that will stop him.

    No bills from Congress needed.

No declaring a National Emergency needed.

All he has to do is follow the law as plainly stated in 10 USC 284......feast your eyes on this:

"(b)Types of Support for Agencies of United States.—The purposes for which the Secretary may provide support under subsection (a) for other departments or agencies of the Federal Government or a State, local, or tribal law enforcement agencies, are the following:"

"(7) Construction of roads and fences and installation of lighting to block drug smuggling corridors across international boundaries of the United States."

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/284

Just like you can't stop him from using the military to put up razor wire, they'll build fencing next.

You're welcome, have a nice day fellas. :nana:

Apparently you don't know anything about the Constitution.

Congress already passed the law I referred to.......AKA permission is already granted.

Is that hard for you to understand?

Congress also has the exclusive right to Declare Wars. Remind me again, did that happen in Iraq, Afghanistan or Syria?

So trump shut down the government as a political stunt then?

The longest shutdown in the history of the US was done not because of some actual emergency but because we have a toddler in the WH that has to make his ego priority.

    Got it.

Is Mexico paying for it yet?

The trouble with posting a thread addressing liberals is that it involves a lot of hand holding for the critical thinking impaired.

Trump shut it down to put the spotlight on ignorance, which he has done nicely. Public perception has not been favorable to the libs.

There is an emergency on the border, no doubt. Now every can see it. Thanks libs.

And yes, the new trade agreement is making Mexico pay for it. I can't help anyone if they can't figure that out.

So trumps motivation wasn’t to secure funding for the wall but just to bring attention to it...

That’s a stretch but sure, you are entitled to your opinion.

You are aware republicans shut down the government before Democrats took control of the house, yes?

That isn’t Mexico paying for anything but I understand the the mental gymnastics y’all have to engage in to defend him. It’s sad

It's like you have no idea what the filibuster rule is in the Senate. Republicans didn't shut down ****.

This is trumps third shutdown. All three started under a Republican President, Republican Senate, and Republican house.

    Try again

He'll never get by the court challenges trying that lame ploy.

Imagine taking money from the military - the very depleted military that trump has saved from decrepitude, no less.

Congrats on turning the party into the party of executive overreach and completely throwing any existing limited government conservatives under the bus; not that there were that many real ones remaining in the party after Trump took over. Fun times.

Republicans used to have qualms about eminent domain, now they want to be able to take private land without any judicial review, no Congressional involvement, no oversight at all, no Constitutional protections. The President can just take your private property any time he feels like it. Luckily that won't actually fly, but it is sad to see the daydreams reach that level of authoritarian BS.

^^^^^^ Now that's just a flat out lie. But I'm not surprised, it's what liberals and rinos do. Eminent domain is allowed pursuant to the 5th Amendment to the Constitution. And yes, the government can take your land first and pay you later.....you can take that up with your Supreme Court.....you know....the one that gave us gay marriage....something that is NOT in the Constitution.

Libertarian, not liberal, and I'm not the least bit surprised you called the post a lie while failing to show that anything in it is untrue. Please tell me where in the 5th amendment the Executive branch is granted the unilateral ability, without oversight, to take private land in what Trump creatively calls "the military version of eminent domain." I'd ask you to also explain how, even if this is Constitutional (Judge Napolitano, not exactly a liberal, argues that it isn't), it would qualify as small government values rather than Executive overreach, but something tells me we'll never get that far.

One word - reconciliation. The 'Pubes used it to pass their tax cut and neuter the filibuster threat. Cecil Turtle and Eddie Munster could have used it at any time to fully fund the wall and Democrats would have been powerless to even slow it down.

    Here endeth the lesson...

The law you've linked to specifically mentions a general requirement to notify Congress of these activities and to report on the budget, etc within 15 days. You do realize this is for Congressional oversight, yes?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the issue was you need an appropriations bill to finance the wall, the issue isn't authority to build to wall, its authority to pay for it.

That was my understanding until I read your post.
