I went from being a very conservative Democrat to being registered as a Republican. I am very independent but vote 100% Republican for local poisitions and 80 to 90 % Republican for state side offices and definately will vote Republican for governor. Our current Democratic idiot got the leguslature to screw up the death penalty law and it got declared unconstitutional. So convicted murderers are alive and living in prison luxury instead of being food for worms and bacteria.

These cultists have certainly made it difficult to be anywhere near center lately, for sure. As a non-partisan, independent and free thinker, I just want to see good sense and pragmatic thinking and policies prevail, and this kindergarten level partisanship subside. It's beyond old at this point. Trump has given me more than my fill. So far, his reign has been like a nasty, never-ending sequel to the wild, fiery hell that was the 2016 campaign season.

That you do not already know what conservative means or cannot be bothered to remember or look at the way it used to function, indicates that NO you will not.
    This might help though.

aloysious here. A refugee from justplainpolitics (JPP). I was banned for a week there for an innocuous joke, so **** em.
    About me:
    Registered Libertarian
Mueller investigation - a witch hunt
Abortion - don't really care but think how much better off we'd be if unwanted babies who became ferrel thugs had been aborted.
Trump: seriously low class, bad image for the country but still better than the hidebeest.
Guns: repeal the 2nd Amendment . Gun ownership is a responsibility not a right. Not that this will reduce school massacres or murder rates in inner cities. It won't.
Strong advocate of the free market.
Religious belief: atheist but follow Taoism.
Anything else you wanna know, ask

    Re
Read my link to the 2000 republican platform as most of it fits my positions as a former conservative....I have no idea what to call it today but, it ain't conservative.

I did, in large part, they seem to be the same as modern day conservativism, smaller gov, lower taxes, etc.

I suppose eliminating any of the social or ethical stances does make it easier to call this new "Trumpst" version Conservative...though the inability to hire people is not a direction toward smaller government I had considered and lower taxes used to mean on Americans not American Corporations.

Conservatism as once known definitely had moral and ethical components and Republicans once fit the "Family Values" label it was given and championed. This has been slipping away and was thrown out the window completely when Republicans bowed before and protected a man who cheats on a pregnant wife with porn stars and playboy bunnies, brags about grabbing pu$$y, cheats people for money and lies continuously....they have totally lost any high ground once gained.

I don't disagree with you, but it is not a valid position to claim that Trump is a horrible scumbag but still support him because of his policies? Can a conservative not defend Trump's actions but still vote for him because of say, his judicial picks?

I have no problem with a leftist declaring that not only is he, she (or in true modern leftist fashion and depending on gender preferences) it a leftist but was secretly a leftist all along for all the years of masquerading as a conservative.

You are hardly the first RINO to belly crawl out of the ideological closet and acknowledge the reality that was increasingly plain to see for anyone paying attention over the years. So anyway I hope that you have a U.S. flag handy and held in reserve upon which to urinate or burn. Remember that it is a leftist right of passage.

I suppose they could, if the moral and ethical mentality we are discussing are disregarded. This unfortunately means the mentality never actually existed as it is dismissed for want of power.

Preservation of WHAT? Very little of Republican Conservatism remains at this point.
