I have saved my life with firearms more times than I could count. Those studies are not supported by actual satistics.
He's not the only one here that has successfully defended their life with a gun. Having to go through that experience (not recommended) changes you.
Are you 10 ? Where I currently live in Portland Oregon, going to a Park after Dark is Dangerous. A freind went to a Park to play an Internet game and was robbed at Gun point of his tablet and phone, these Crimes are common place and only Liberals in denial, claim otherwise. You do not need to live a high risk life style to be in potentially harmful situations.

Not that he doesn't, many don't have the funds to leave their neighborhoods, friends and family. Why should that be the answer rather than have the means for self defense?

Sure it is, you are interviewed and recertify, and if you are found mentally unfit or incompetent, you are not allowed credentials.
You opened the door to that comment by making yourself an expert on my life. It is overly simplistic to claim my life is dangerous or where I live is more dangerous. And to question why I live there. Young Children often raise such questions as they have no knowledge or experience.

He is not in a war zone. I was raised in one, in Belfast in the 60's and 70's and aside from the conflict, there was little crime in the way of theft, robbery, rape, and gun violence not associated with the conflict itself. The drug trade in this country, like the liquor trade in the 20's, has created zones of increased criminality affecting many large cities and in many cities is pervasive throughout. It will follow the population. Where would you go to escape it?
I lived in a small town in Southern Maryland, I was expecting a neighbor, I heard a knock and opened the door, it was a huge man, he said, Give me some money, I had $2 in a shirt pocket, he said, not enough, give me more and started pushing me into the apartment, I stepped back quickly and drew My 1911 and pointed it centermass and clicked off the safety. When he saw I was Armed, he turned and ran almost taking the door and frame with him. The next day police cars were parked in front and Deputies were asking questions, turned out they were looking for that same guy, they were pretty mad at me. I was told he was a serial rapist and I would have saved everyone lots of trouble if I had simply shot him. You do not have to do anything special, danger sometimes knocks on your door, even kicks it down.
