Yes exactly what Trump's "master", Putin, wanted. Surely this must prove Trump is working in cahoots on behalf of the Russians!
Seriously speaking another success for Trump and signs Europe is now taking seriously their responsibility so we can lessen ours in Europe.

Nato members increase defence spending by $100 billion after Donald Trump called them 'delinquents'

Nato states will increase their defence spending by 100 billion dollars in response to Donald Trump's demands that European allies shoulder a greater financial burden, the alliance's secretary general has said.

Jens Stoltenberg said on Sunday that the alliance had heard Mr Trump's call for non-US members to shoulder a greater financial burden "loud and clear" and that allies are "stepping up."

Great job Mr President! Glad to see our partners finally setting up....all it took was a President that was willing to call them out!

I'm not crippled by the narratives that control my thinking, so I can't share the Progressive hope for the future of this nation.

    1) Russia could not be happier
    2) This in no way impacts the US financial burden - our defense spending
    3) Increased defense spending among NATO members does not strengthen NATO in any meaningful way.
    4) Increased defense spending among NATO members decreases these nations ability to fight the real war - which is economic.

This might mean something to our economy if we were able to shrink OUR defense spending by an equal amount - but Trump raised defense spending and increased the debt - so it means jack-****.

So NATO members are executing a plan they agreed to back in 2014, but Trump is responsible. Got it!

They pledged to increase defense spending to 2% of GDP by 2024. How can you claim they "hadn't done" it when the deadline for doing so is still six years away?

The NATO secretary-general is openly pandering to Trump's ego, giving Trump credit for something that was already in progress. And this being Trump, it worked. Other countries are learning that all you need to do is stroke Trump's ego and he will do nearly anything you want.

No action had been taken. They have been making pledges for years, with nothing being done to live up to their promises.

    https://www.stripes.com/trump-s-cla...aring-have-long-history-1.421645#.XE88z_ZFw2w

In a 2011 speech in Brussels, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who served in both Republican and Democratic administrations, warned that “the blunt reality is that there will be dwindling appetite and patience in the U.S. Congress, and in the American body politic writ large, to expend increasingly precious funds on behalf of nations that are apparently unwilling to devote the necessary resources ... in their own defense.”

That was from 2011. NATO pledged to up its spending in 2014. Do tell how Trump had anything to do with it.

If you're going to argue that Trump got NATO countries to finally increase their spending, you'll need to show some cause-effect. Because otherwise it's Trump claiming credit for something that was already in progress.

I love how the Dems said how important NATO is, now trump gets the remaining countries point up and now nato defense isn’t that big a deal.

Did trump not say in his speech to the other countries that they need to pay more?

Did this spending increase occur AFTER trump said those things?

Time to admit this is thanks to trump! @raytri , man up and apologize to everyone on this thread for your lack of acknowledgement...and make it quick!

The agreement to do that was made during the Obama administration.

Nice chart. What part of "The deadline is 2024" did you fail to understand?

    *LOL*

The agreement was that our NATO partners would increase their own defense spending to 2% of their respective GDPs by 2024. That agreement was made in 2014.

Bonespurs J. Stumblebum had nothing to do with that, and no, countries don't decide to increase their expenditures that quickly, as they'd already budgeted to do that.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/17/us/politics/fact-check-trump-nato-spending-increase.html

But Mr. Trump is wrong that these increases occurred “only because of me.”

As a share of G.D.P., spending by European members and Canada began to rise before Mr. Trump took office. The most recent report from NATO shows that their annual spending as a share of G.D.P. has steadily increased since 2015, when it was 1.4 percent, to 1.47 percent in 2018.

The total dollars spent by European countries and Canada also have risen every year over that time period, from $254 billion in 2015, to $256 billion in 2016, to $273 billion in 2017 to $307 billion in 2018.

So Mr. Trump is also correct that these NATO members are expected to spend about $34 billion more this year than in 2017. But that is part of a yearslong trend of increases.

That you, Bonespurs J. Incompetent, for being a crappy president and trying to take credit for things well beyond your abilities.

Oh I just betcha the Russian military is just pleased as punch the European and Eastern Europe nations will be strongly increasing their military spending and strengthen it. What's not to like if you are a Russian.

It effects where we can now spend it.

And how do you derive that specious conclusion?

Don't be naive it's not one or the other. But if that is your belief then did you support the use pulling out since you seem to be implying we don't need it or at least to be a part of it if the next war is going to be economic and not an armed conflict.
