    1. Stephen Lendman was born in 1934 in Boston, MA. In 1956, he received a BA from Harvard University. Two years of US Army service followed, then an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1960. After working seven years as a marketing research analyst, he joined the Lendman Group family business in 1967. The following are excerpts from his April 4, 2018 article headlined "US/China Trade War Escalates".

    (Begin Excerpts)
...In late March, Trump’s trade advisor Peter Navarro said “China, in my view, brazenly has released this China 2025 plan that basically told the rest of the world, ‘We’re going to dominate every single emerging industry of the future, and therefore your economies aren’t going to have a future” – a disgraceful perversion of truth.

America wants its longstanding position as the world’s dominant political, economic, financial and military power maintained unchallenged.

As development of China, Russia and other nations advance considerably, America’s dominant position slips.

Russian super-weapons are more advanced than Washington’s. China is heading toward becoming the world’s leading economy.

Reality doesn’t go down well in America, slipping as other nations advance.

Trade wars assure losers, not winners. Trump’s strategy is wrongheaded. Economic damage done to both countries will be clearer in the months ahead. (End excerpts)

    2. With regard to Peter Navarro's "disgraceful perversion of truth", I coin the term "navarron" for a thug or bully who cowardly avoids any challenge to his dominant position but disgracefully intimidates the challenger instead.

    (a) For instance, do you think global education is going to have a future if there is a navarron in every class threatening his classmates not to excel but fail all examinations so that he can maintain his first position in class?

    (b) Taking another example, do you think global commerce is going to have a future if there is a navarron in every office threatening his colleagues not to work hard so that he can be seen by his employer as the most hardworking employee?

    (c) Taking this final example, do you think all restaurants in the world are going to have a future if there is a navarron in every restaurant's kitchen threatening his colleagues not to cook properly so that he can be seen by all customers as the best chef of the restaurant?
