The Navy is expected to announce it has relieved the captain who sounded the alarm about an outbreak of COVID-19 aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, according to two U.S. officials.
Capt. Brett Crozier, who commands the Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier with a crew of nearly 5,000, will be relieved of his command, but keep his rank and remain in the Navy.
Crozier raised the alarm earlier this week that sailors on the ship need to be quarantined to stop the spread of the virus. His plea for assistance quickly made headlines.
Crozier sent a letter to the Navy on Monday begging for help addressing the coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship, which was forced to dock in Guam last week.

    A Most interesting Breaking Story.

I wonder what the rationale will be for relieving him of command?

    This should be really interesting.

    Thoughts?

This will be very interesting. We all saw what happened when passengers were quarantined on a cruise ship.
This Captain is being unfairly treated.

The US is not China. We don't silence people for whistleblowing. I'm sure there is more to the story.

What was he supposed to do ???Any military accommodations are always in tight crowded quarters which are ideal conditions for the spread of the virus.

National security, the readiness status of any unit of the military is classified information, it's not something we want our enemies to know.

I think the issue is that he’s suspected of leaking the story to the media, not that he raised justifiable concerns to his superiors.
“Crozier raised the alarm this week, sending a strongly worded letter to Navy leadership that detailed his concerns about the spread of the virus on the ship. The letter leaked to the media and generated a series of headlines.”

It doesn't matter who he leaked it to it the readiness of any military asset, and the bigger the more so, is TOP SECRET HIGHLY CLASSIFIED INFORMATION. We don't want headlines telegraphing such information to our enemies. I would not be surprised if charges are brought against him. He certainly cannot remain in command of a carrier.

Leaking the battle readiness of a carrier, a vital military asset, well what do you call it? I would not doubt it if he has further charges file against him.

Do you not understand HIGHLY CLASSIFED MILITARY INFORMATION. Do you know what our enemies constantly go through trying to determine our military readiness at any given time?

He's removed from command first and then a JAG investigation. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a courts marital but under these circumstances and the severity of his being removed from command and his career over they may want to end it there.

He should be charged along with anyone who disclose the coronavirus rates for people within military age of 18-60. That's vital information about our nations security.

I don’t believe there will be a court martial. His crime was carelessness and it doesn’t seem to stick.
