Some people literally would not hurt a fly. I got a friend that lets them out of the house instead of swatting them. Same friend I deer hunt with on his property. He is a good man.

Meanwhile the rest of us chase those flys around the house with glee, rolled up newspaper in hand, because the house fly can be a destructive pest.

These boars we are talking about are not like the deer. They are not native and they are destructive to the environment. They are like a fly in the house. Some people take pleasure in reducing pests, some people don't. There is really no right or wrong involved. It isn't wrong to eat, and it isn't wrong to evict pests. It's not like we are drowning kittens.

Who is setting up up the wild hog population for fun? It exists and is a menace to society. Hunting is fun to many people. It’s in our genes. Hunting hogs with helicopters, dogs, thermal imaging technology, etc. is all fun for many.

When you “put” dogs on a hog it means many things. But not tearing them up. Dogs locate hogs, surround and pen hogs, and grab (by the ears) hogs. These dogs are typically called bay dogs. Then there are catch and hold dogs that are released and hold a hog while it is captured or dispatched humanely, often with a blade for quietness and safety.

Hog hunting also helps feed needy people. More states are legalizing wild hog use for food banks all the time.

    https://wildlifeflorida.org/flh4h/

@FatBack talked about putting dogs on hogs for fun. That’s HUNTING, not tearing up animals like dog fighting or **** fighting. Hunting with dogs provides a service by decreasing hog populations which benefits society and the environment. It also provides food for hunters and needy folks. And it’s FUN for many people because we are hard wired hunters—it’s our genetic makeup.

I didn’t know if you thought your king is vile and disgusting. That’s why I asked. Neither of us support raising foxes to be hunted. But hunting hogs with dogs in the US is a totally different thing altogether. Hogs are a destructive invasive species that must be controlled. And dogs are one very humane and effective method of control. And there is nothing vile or disgusting about enjoying hunting with dogs.

I personally don't do it but I have friends that do and I don't knock anyone for it. If I got the opportunity I would like to go out.

My claim to fame is that hundred plus pound sow hog I got about 6 years ago with my cap and ball from around 80 ft.

All the stars lined up for a spot and stalk that day. I spotted them about 150 yards up River and across the river from me. Tried to walk up there to get a shot across the river but they went behind a slough.

So I went back down river a hundred yards and cross the river and then took my croc sandals off because they were squeaking.

I hunched down and followed the River Bank parallel to the slough where i had seen them go across the other side.

I popped my head up and there were two of them. I took aim and fired twice ( as quickly as a single action can ) and evidently missed and they did not move until the 2nd shot. I think I just caught them off guard to the point that they did not initially know which direction it came from or where to run

I took aim at the ground under the chest of the second one because I knew it was going high. By this time they were both on the run but hug number two only made it 15 ft and dropped and squealed loudly several times and gave up the ghost. It was a broadside shot and the round lead ball put a hole through both lungs.

I feild dressed it there and carried it a good 500 yards out on my shoulders.

I should do that at least once a year. Although a 50 caliber Hawken would probably be a better tool for the next one.

We raise ring-neck pheasant just so we can let them go, chase them down with a dog, shoot them out of the sky, and eat them. Not unlike a dolphin or a feline toying with his food.

It's great sport. watching the dog work is half the fun. :)

And anyone who hasn't caught-killed-cooked and ate something should not be allowed out of high school

Ever seen the movie Beyond Borders? There is a scene in that movie that portrays exactly what you are talking about. It’s a good movie. I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. For all the flaws Hollywood injects into good stories, this movie transcends them. Makes me thankful for what we have.

I’ve never hunted hogs. Thankfully we don’t have that invasive species. Hunting hogs with a cap and ball single action would definitely get the adrenaline going. Almost like using a blade. Definitely have to be on your toes!

    You got that right!!!
I only loaded 4 rounds because I didn't plan to miss twice. Round 3 was the money shot.

By that point, the first one I missed disappeared up the ridge into thick palmettos. The gun has one live round at this point.

I wait about one minute before approaching the downed hog. I cautiously approached and poked it with my knife....no movement...I still put the last round angling down through the neck for good measure. ( Remember... At this point I was uncertain where I had hit it )....

So now I have an empty gun and it occurs to me that hog number 2 could be within 50 foot or less of me and those thick palmettos and could possibly charge me.

So I grabbed the hog I had dispatched by the legs and drag it down by the River for field dressing so at least I would have warning if the hog come out of the palmettos and have a little bit of distance where I could at least get into the shallow River.

I prayed and meditated and visualized for success for several days and nights before the hunt.

I was planning on having to walk maybe as far as a mile more downriver to find any hogs but as soon as I got to the area lo and behold looking across the river there they were.

I don't know if you ever seen pictures that I posted of the recumbent bicycle that I fabricated myself?

After carrying the field dressed carcass at least 500 yards I put it in a sleeping bag nylon cover bag and actually rode home with it in my lap for a mile and a half. God and some of my friends as my witness.

I was so high on adrenaline I didn't even feel the exhaustion and the muscle soreness until the next day.

But I wanted it and I got it because I went out and made it happen. If I ever try that again I will be sure to load all six cylinders.

German knife maker PUMA used to make a boar spear. It had a crosspiece on the shaft-so the pig couldn't run up the spear and gore the hunter. years ago, I met a guy at a gun show named Larry Harley. He made pig hunting knives--even had a video tape of a hunt. Dogs grabbed the hog-he slayed it with a knife. I asked him what happened if a dog let the pig loose before he should stick it. He pulled his shirt up-big scar. said sometimes you get the pig-sometimes the pig gets you! an interesting fellow-he passed several years ago. I used to enjoy talking to him about knives.

Me wake up? Your the one who seems to have been asleep, well at least just until recently. The news article you just quoted is 14 years old!

Do you have proof, any proof that the instances highlighted in that news story and reported to the appropriate authorities at the time are an ongoing problem now? And while I wait for you to respond I remind you you still haven't proven or recanted your 'Violent criminals in Australia tend to be white and well armed' accusation' as requested.

I wait for proof both both but I'm not holding my breath.

Do you have any evidence that your criminal justice system has stopped fudging the crime data?

Simple. Reviews of Police Statistical data bases both State and National governments since that incident (and another in NSW relating to statistics on knife crime you missed ) while recommending more consistent/similar approaches to measuring crime statistics across all States but have failed to find any further evidence of deliberate falsification.jurisdictions. This problem arises from the fact that different states used different methods for categorizing and reporting different crime types. Not with any intent to deceive but just by virtue of long standing practice/custom.

Beyond that your argument is false. Your asking me to prove a negative i.e the there are no ongoing instances of false reporting. I've searched and can find no evidence. Your the one making the allegation. You have to present evidence it is happening not the other way round. How am I supposed to prove a black cat did NOT walk across my back fence in the middle of the night?

I'm sure he's not proud that he forgot to being enough catridges to get the job done. It happens. Especially waterfowling. We are limited to steel shot and sometimes you gotta shoot those ducks three or four times whereas when lead was legal one shot kills were common place.

P.S. you still have retracted (or proven) your allegation that serious crime in Australia is dominated by armed white males.

I didn't forget anything. I just didn't plan on missing twice.

To unload a cap and ball revolver you almost must fire it.

I suppose if you wanted to take a nipple wrench and remove the nipple and dump the powder out and go in through that hole with a solid rod and attempt to beat the ball out of the front of the cylinder you might could...

It's a pain in the axx but if you can take the caps off nipples it is unloaded in my state. That's what I do with my hawken style carbine for the ride home after a hunt. Can't discharge a firearm more than 20 minutes after sundown when hunting deer in my state.

Problem is then moisture can get it.

And also it might be a real pain in the ass to get the powder back in.

The cap and ball revolvers loading lever pushes that lead ball down in there with enough degree of force that it shaves off a tiny ring in order to seal the chamber against chainfire.

That hole the nipple comes out it's probably no bigger around than 3 1/2 mm

One might find one self hard pressed to punch that ball out with a rod of that diameter.

You can easily remove the cap from the nipple but that's not going to do anything to unload the chamber for storage purposes.

It's really not recommended to leave a black powder gun loaded especially if it's dirty.

But I have stored a clean cap and ball loaded for up to 1 month and it showed no signs of corrosion after being fired empty and cleaned

There is a certain satisfaction in being able to do for yourself as opposed to going to a grocery store and paying for factory farmed pork full of antibiotics and hormones and steroids.

There was once a time when real men brought home the bacon and that didn't mean going to the store

LOL! Probably because I never made such an "allegation". Read my posted comments more carefully. It helps. :)
Sounds like something the Australian MSM might have published.

Why would anyone trust data from government agencies that have been repeatedly caught red handed fudging the data. The Australian cannot even manage to conduct an accurate census even though it has an interest in an accurate count.
Police agencies, that are virtually helpless as crime solvers and preventers h. ave no interest in reporting that inconvenient truth even when they are fully aware of it.

The Guardian had to dig out the true numbers from daily news reports to expose another Fake Statistics scandal just this month.

“Because they didn't have any data available." The Australian Institute of Criminology - the body required to publish reports on deaths in custody - was years behind.”

“Guardian Australia’s Indigenous affairs editor Lorena Allam at home in Sydney. ‘Our people were very rarely given voice,’ she says. ‘On deaths in custody we were just the nameless, faceless dead.’ “
THE GUARDIAN, The staggering omission that led to Deaths Inside, the tally tracking Indigenous deaths in custody, By Caitlin Cassidy and Marni Cordell, Tue 16 May 2023 11.00 EDT.
    https://www.theguardian.com/media/2...e-tally-tracking-indigenous-deaths-in-custody

    When will they ever learn?

It isn't hard wired to anything. It boils down to individual choice and desire. And when that choice and desire is contrary to reason and law, then force is required for the cause of peace and justice. That's why we have Police, courts, prisons and militaries.

Yes, if enough professional police are on the scene of a crime they may be able to respond effectively, stop crime and enforce the law. But then there is Uvaldi.
IMO, the primary purpose for a professional police force is to intimidate and dominate the law abiding public, and can do that so long as it is right in the public's face.

The only significant positive function for police is serving warrants. Police are virtually helpless when it comes to solving or preventing crime.
