If so.....why is that a concern of the US? Let the ME natives sort it out as they have for many many centuries.

I would love to bring my military home, but the world would be screaming before we left our bases.

No nation that isn’t secular should be allowed to have any weapons beyond the minimal needed to defend itself from ground invasion. Countries managed by religious zealots have no place in the modern world.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There, right there is the kernel of the issue the USA needs to confront. What gall 'you' have to believe that "YOU" get to decide what other Sovereign Nations may or may not have. "YOU" have the Big Toy and so "YOU" will decide who else gets to have a Big Toy. Bah! Nah!!!

Really? And the USA has no 'religious zealots' managing it? Really? Is Trump an atheist?

Their version of sorting it out is to expand and murder all who are not them until they reach the borders of civilization and then they fight, waiting to see if we object. It is always harder to drive barbarians back then it is to stop them from expanding.

As far as I know,... all US presidents have been rather religious. It's a prime thing to be in order to be elected. It's all God bless this and that. Almost all presidents put their hand on the bible to swear an oath.

Germany aint any different. That Merkel is from a political party called CDU. C stands for Christian!! Doesn't sound secular to me.

Nah. You are welcome to keep your basis and your military where you have been asked to keep them. Even then....please don't use them to fly your drones where they should not be or are unwelcome.

No but it's an accurate descriptor for what the us at total war against a barely more than 3rd world country would look like.

If the middle East just terrorizes it's own people I agree.

We used to think Chairman Mao was a crazy murderous bloke and the Chinese killed a lot more Americans, in Korea, than were ever killed by the Iranians. Yet we let China get the nuclear bomb. A further parallel: Iran declares tiny Israel is not a legal independent state. But China thinks tiny Taiwan is not a legal independent state. Why should one make more difference than the other?

Who is rooting for Iran over USA ? You Are ... that's who. Just like the anti american jokers who supported the war in Iraq - a pointless war on the basis of lies and false narrative that costs us Trillions of dollars - over 5000 soldiers dead and tens of thousands physically or psychologically wounded.

Then on the basis of going after terrorists - despite Iraq had nothing to do with Al Qaeda - it becomes our "Patriotic Duty" to give up essential liberty ... turning the land of the free .. home of the brave into the land of those on their knees begging to trade essential liberty for temporary security.. over a risk of harm that is 400 times less than the risk of harm from walking.

Like these groveling sheep - crawling on their knees while claiming to be patriots - have you too drank from the cherry koolaid glass ?

In my view, Iran has the evilist government on earth. If you want specifics, go to the Middle East section of this forum and read some of my threads there. They will pose a very grave danger to
the region if they acquire nuclear weapons. They also sponsor terrorist groups, and my fear is that if they get nuclear weapons they will give one to a terrorist group to use in the United States.
They could destroy a major city, and we couldn't strike back because we would not be able to prove beyond doubt that Iran was responsible. What we can do about Iran developing such wesapons
is difficult to say. I think the sanctions are good because they hurt their economy and makes it harder to find the money for weapons development. Iran has 12% unemployment and a 37% inflation
rate. They have already have had to cut funding for Hezbollah and Syrian militiamen. Their people are tired of hardship and the government has had to become more and more repressive to
keep them under control. Last year, over 7,000 demonstrators were arrested, 26 protestors were killed, and at least 9 more died while in police custody. Iran had 507 'official' executions in
2018. Iran executes more people per capita than any other nation on earth. The theocrats have to look tough to control their people. and that, in my opinion, is why they have attacked the
tankers, rocketted Saudi Arabia, and shot down the drone. These actions were for internal consumption - by thumbing their noses at the US, they look strong to their oppressed people. They
know the US cannot realistically go to war with them. We could make airstrikes, but Iran has highly developed air defenses. Iran has an army of 400,000, and we cannot deploy enough troops
to easily defeat them (we were only able to deploy 140,000 to Iraq, and Iran is much stronger).

Bet your asteroid. You obviously have never been in the military or confronted nations that weren’t democracies.
We can’t allow nations run by religious fanatics the same access to weapons as democracies where the wishes of the people are subordinate to some ridiculous religious destiny.....deal with it.

No.....I did not ask that the US have a Base in North Qld and the Northern Territory. The US asked us if it could. Being an affable, agreeable and hospitable mob, we said "Okay, let's have a beer."
