Well, Israel really split itself. Then Judea was destroyed by the Romans. And while the Christians did do a lot of damage to Europe, I think the plagues at the same time had more to do with that then anything else.

Uhh, I would definately argue with you about that. The Renaissance would be the same thing to Christians as the Golden Age was to Islam. A time of great cultural, scientific, and artistic advances. And by the same token, many would consider the the "Age of Enlightenment" could be considered to be one as well.

And once agian, most of that depopulation was by plagues, not religious warfare.

Sorry, I don't by that idea of "history". If I was to bet, the next major population crash will likely be due to plague, as it was many times. We are well overdue for one, and our overpopulation simply screams for a good global pandemic.

Again, I was referring to what Josephus called the "Wars of the Jews" which occurred from roughly 167 BCE to about 135 CE. The Roman territory know as "the Kingdom of Israel" was essentially depopulated. Over 3 million Jews were either killed; enslaved; or ran away during the Roman destruction. Several hundred thousand were killed before that, after the Maccabean revolt starting 167 CE, as Jews murdered each other...

Yes. Plague kills far more people than anything. That's correct.
However, I am discussing the kind of sectarian civil war where members of the same religion are bent on wiping each other out.
Over 8 million died in the Thirty Years War alone. ALL of Northern Europe was devastated. Thousands of towns and villages were wiped out. From approximately 1453 (the Fall of Constantinople) until the mid 1700's, tens of millions, possibly close to one hundred million, Christian Europeans murdered each other - From Ireland to Moscow; from Sweden to North Africa, Christian sectarian wars destroyed Europe. Not to mention the religious wars fought abroad by these same European Christians. These wars finally ended when Europe was bankrupt, unable to raise armies or feed its peoples and, the people consequently rose up in secular revolutions in your new "Age of Enlightenment."

And, shortly after the Renaissance began, Christian Europe began destroying itself - including the various City States of Italy. Science and Art always have advanced in times of great turmoil... Always.

Yes. The "Age of Enlightenment" occurred as the European Destruction ended...

I was extrapolating by exponential's.
If the Jews destroyed their "world," the entire Kingdom of Israel, over 3 million people - with swords and spears and arrows;
And the Christians destroyed their "world," all of Europe, over tens of millions of people - with swords, spears, arrows, rudimentary firearms and cannon;
Then, the Muslims, whose "world" encompasses planet Earth, who appear to be bent on destroying themselves - who have at their disposal weapons of mass destruction - could render large portions of the planet uninhabitable and murder billions of people in doing so...

Who is going to stop them?

 

So we should strike first with our WMDs?

Actually, Mali, Guinea, Senegal and Gambia were pretty happy at various times, and were moving slowly toward a more modern outlook. There is even a strong feminist movement going on there now, with an emphasis on ending FGM and similar abuses.

It would be interesting to see where they could go if they could get out from under the thumb of the multi-nationals who have retained ownership of such a large part of their national wealth in the form of natural resources.
