    Howdy,

Let's imagine some smart head(s) comes up with the idea of a new kind of energy. Like antigravity, cold fussion, ether engine or what have you.
What would be the consequenses of announcing such a new energy source? What if such a discovery makes oil more or less obsolete, for internal combustion engines at least? Could the world handle such a shift or we will have mass unrest and crashing economies due to plummeting revenues from oil sales (SA, Russia, Norway, Nigeria, Venezuela come at mind)?
Or should such a new energy be suppressed and hiden away to avoid economic turmoil and, why not, a new world war?
