"Trump's executive order will likely have less of an impact than critics fear and supporters hope, Michael Tanner, Cato Institute senior fellow, told FOX Business. On the plus side, it could lower premiums and increase access to lower cost coverage, he said. However, on the flip side, Tanner believes the proposals set forth in Thursday's order could exacerbate adverse selection in the health care exchanges, causing the ObamaCare exchanges to deteriorate more rapidly."

    ^^ from the article.

What he calls the "plus side" and the "flip side", sounds kind of like two plus sides to me.

If Trump can fix the Obamacare nightmare, I don't care if it benefits him also.

Fail. Cross state lines is a waste and won't work. Carriers in one state are under no obligation to accept said insurance, and republicans are against laws that prevent control by the government over insurance acceptance by doctors.

We need single payer already, this is exhausting to keep the ******ned dead horse on the dock, continuously being beaten.

Many years ago back in the 70's amd 80's that's how my dathers company provided health insurance, the company was a member of a group of small businesses which gave them the buying power of a big company. And it was good insurance.

What is the leftwing objection to that?

They have no other answer but turning it all over to the government which would be an utter disaster.

    "
    What’s the backstory?
States have historically played a leading role in regulating health insurance. Prior to the 2010 enactment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), state insurance regulations varied widely. States differed in the extent of medical underwriting they allowed, in their “guaranteed issue” requirements regarding people with preexisting conditions, and in permitting or preventing coverage denials for certain medical conditions. To sell policies in multiple states, insurers had to comply with each state’s insurance regulations.

The ACA created a more uniform system of rules for health insurers. The law provides a regulatory floor for health plans sold to individuals across all 50 states by requiring insurers to offer a plan to anyone who applies, prohibiting insurers from excluding coverage of preexisting health conditions, placing limits on what people can be charged based on their health, gender, or age, and requiring that every plan offer a set of “essential benefits,” such as preventive services and maternity care.

The ACA allows insurers to sell policies across state lines in states that have joined “health care choice compacts.” Six states—Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wyoming—have passed laws permitting such compacts. No states have joined them, and no insurers have expressed interest in selling plans in such an arrangement."

Insurance companies do not want interstate access....they can do so right now and wont.

I think this EO demonstrates what really irked Trump about 0-care. It wasn't its effects on ordinary people, but how it impacted businesses. That has always been his perspective, being a business owner and employer himself. And so, here we see him signing an EO to help businesses (like his own) insure employees more cheaply. Will this be better for employees? Questionable. But will it be better for businesses? Of course.

it can't, by definition of insurance. Insurance rates are calculated on the cost of care in a specific area. If you live in NYC, the cost is HUGE. So your premiums will be higher. If you buy your policy rated for the cost of care in West Union WV, the insurance company goes bankrupt because it can't collect the necessary premiums to cover the cost of care for the area the policy is being used in.

That should concern you very much. Trump acting in his own interests first will not give us an optimal solution. Far from it.
