It's a good step but it will take time. Major Insurance companies would be hurt most by this as it opens up competition. They lobby state and federal government to keep regulation per each state high and I'm sure they offer carrots to lead legislatures to believe it's better to keep things as are. But its a step in the right direction for a more competitive environment.

Before Obama care, I was ready to cancel my insurance from my employeement as I had good private options. After Obama care those options disappeared. So anything that leads to increased competion, even if the effects aren't immediate, is inviting change. Once Obama care is repealed the old options will be available and new ones will be around the corner.

Second issue, on top of the serious one I described i my above post, is the cut of subsidies for the poor. Health insurers are already increasing rates for everyone in anticipation of that move. Throwing the poor under the bus, who would have thought of it?

Given the fact that President Trump has advocated for single payer for the better part of 3 decades, you just may get your wish. He still wants single payer. And he's trying to get us there. His clueless fan base doesn't even realize that. Or maybe they do, and they just as so infatuated with the man that he can do anything and they'll bat their eyelashes at him like high school girls with a crush on the captain of the football team.

Probably because he didn't make a mess. You want to see a mess, wait till this goes into the works.

It doesn't bother "progressives". If the changes were so easy to be made, why did Congress fail so miserably. Why didn't they "fix" ACA? Politics? Stupidity?

I'm pretty sure you'd like to have my BC/BS package for $235 a month for Primary and spouse.

Ah, the meme that doesn't fly. When the above says "destroy" what they are really referring to is "paying for" meaning they don't, and others do. Those same folks would still have the ability to obtain health care. They would simply have to find other means to pay for it. So, healthcare would actually be "destroyed", that's just hyperventilation on the part of the above poster.

You don't think it will be a slightly different scenario with 50 states involved?

How so? In all my years I've never seen a sick person go to an insurance company for treatment.

It's really like a sickening obsession. Most of these halfwits don't even realize he just cost them their health insurance.

We need single payer with private providers. This is insane and has to stop.

Insurance companies just add 25-30% on top of healthcare costs and generate lots of paperwork. Trump doesn't have the balls to go single payer -private delivery and dismantle the VA.

Well look at it this way, if you could tap in to insurance pools in say California do you think you'd same money and get descent coverage, I think many would! The difference in one state trying to sell insurance and fifty will be a huge difference! With Georgia they were able to sell across state lines but not many states were allowed buy across state lines :) In any case, we all need to chill out as none of this will even be implemented for at least a year and a half "Ron Paul this morning" so relax and let it play out!

So why not cut them out all together and go with a concierge care solution, like Atlas MD? They advertise $50/mo flat rate for routine care and 95% cost savings over pharmacy for common medications. Relegate insurance companies to covering catastrophic events instead of everything.

I'm not familiar with Atlas.. Must be for GP specialty.. Most concierge docs get $10K a year from each patient.

If there is no such thing as "free market healthcare", then how in the world did you post a link to disprove it?

Go to the link to learn more. The Dr there claims his practice model can be expanded nationally, and has personally addressed Congress to that effect. This is what "free market healthcare" looks like, and it cuts insurance companies, and their associated red tape, out of the routine care business, and would introduce competition which drives costs down.

He could hand it over to me. I know more about insurance then him, his cabinet, every democrat and republican politician across this country.

You ever stop to wonder; why do certain politicians promise certain things? Like the dudes who come out against abortion, then secretly have their mistress get an abortion?

Or how congress wants to remove the ACA for us, but not itself?

    You've fallen for it.

Competition in the marketplace hasn't worked well for Americans? Free enterprise has been a failure? A persons health care decisions should be left to the government? That's the American spirit!
