    Forward!

Exclusive-Former Republicans and Democrats form new third U.S. political party

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Dozens of former Republican and Democratic officials announced on Wednesday a new national political third party to appeal to millions of voters they say are dismayed with what they see as America's dysfunctional two-party system.

The new party, called Forward and whose creation was first reported by Reuters, will initially be co-chaired by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey. They hope the party will become a viable alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties that dominate U.S. politics, founding members told Reuters.

Party leaders will hold a series of events in two dozen cities this autumn to roll out its platform and attract support. They will host an official launch in Houston on Sept. 24 and the party's first national convention in a major U.S. city next summer.

To me, this sounds like just a grifting operation, but I see so many comments on this forum about "we need another party" this or "need a third party" that; it might really collect a lot of money for it's founders before it vanishes into obscurity and overseas bank accounts.

Well we have had more than two parties try to run before. At the end of the day it will still be a two party race.

I opened a thread about this last year, when they were talking about conservative leaning moderate party, but it seems nothing came out of it.

I've been saying this here for a long time but these people need to work on the name. Forward carries implications not necessarily true, they may step back in some cases. They need something to show that they are more inclusive, more of a swing party. Do that and they could really become a big factor by 2028

It would take like 20-50 years for them to become powerfull to take on the big dogs. Still like it though.

Sooo what’s their stance on gun control, abortion, transgenders in opposite sex bathrooms, economic policy, welfare, homeless, military spending etc?

    Agree with OP’s assessment.

Yang doesn’t strike me as being a terribly bright guy. I’ve listened to him talk about this party and he doesn’t seem to have a clear idea of what it’s supposed to be; just lofty vagueries. It’ll fizzle out after managing to flimflam a small fortune out of its supporters.

Here's what I don't get. "Forward" is a slogan of the communist/socialist parties around the world. We already have a socialist party in the US. They march around in their pointy hats etc already. Andrew could already be a card carrying member of that group.... So a new launch? Seems like a pointless exercise in rebranding... Laughable.

I’m a socialist, but I’m not familiar with the pointy hats. Care to educate me?

Oh, just making jokey jokes? Fair enough. Guess that explains why it didn’t make much sense.

Feel free to disengage if it’s not the conversation, but could you define socialism? Are you sure you know what it is?

It’s just that, you seem to be informed by TPUSA, and they’re a bunch of morons.

And hey, nobody knows more about grifting operations than MAGA's.... If you say this is one, I have to listen to you....

LOL.. You sound hurt. I suppose the best definition of socialism is "take from the doers and reattribute to the non doers/supporters of the socialist party politik, and pump up the elite who provide no value at all". Did I get that right? I mean we have TONS of evidence here, should we start with Venezuela? Cuba? China? The old Soviet? Which example would you like to begin with?

I mean, I don't want to waste everyone's time here if all you're willing to discuss are theoretical never proven ifs and buts....

I can't speak for the future, but this will certainly garner attention, it's ability to grow roots usually has to be done at lower echelons in politics first.

If they can move independents to their party they have a shot, but they will need money and their first few candidates will need to perform well, in order to last.

Without having done any research into this new party, this was the first thing I thought. You beat me to posting it. It's and unfortunate and ignorant name choice, if they aren't actually commies. I came to learn about what the word "Forward" means when Obama was using it as a campaign slogan.

No you didn’t get that right, but then I suspect you’re trying to be hyperbolic.

In the interest of being on the same page. Let’s make sure we have an agreed upon definition.
Workers own the means of production. Work for you?

Venezuela: The economy doesn’t not promote worker ownership of production.

Cuba: Cuba’s “socialism” has been that of central power dictating. Not the workers democratically organizing. Their practices have little to do with the prescriptions of Marx.

China: Means of production are held by a single strongman. Not socialism.

It seems that in order to condemn socialism you have to point at countries that aren’t actually socialist. That’s weird.

"Yes, we can" and "Hope and Change" - Obama 2008 "Middle Class First" and "Forward" - Obama 2012

"Make America Great Again" was Reagans slogan in 1980, and then copy-catted by Trump.

"America First" was Pat Buchanan and also copy-catted by Trump

"Read My Lips, No New Taxes" - didn't end well for Bush Sr.

"Its the economy, stupid" - Bill Clinton

"Restore America Now" - Ron Paul

"Not left. Not right. Forward." - Andrew Yang, so so this is not new. He is using his old slogan.

    Such slogans mean nothing.

New party is a good idea, and its silly to bicker over their slogan.

I doubt it will go 'forward' much, but it's a start. The duopoly has become 'complacent' that they will always be in charge (two wings, one bird) and we have let them do it for way too long.

America First was also pretty popular amongst American Nazis back in the 40s.

We need ranked choice voting. I’d say that would be the most meaningful step we could take towards breaking the duopoly. Unfortunately they’re the ones that would have to make that happen. Which they won’t.

Agree he seems to know little about the economy or national security or foreign affairs. Lots of lofty rhetoric and that's about it.
