I think it's pretty clear to most Americans that the MSM is the propaganda arm of the "Progressive" movement that is restricted from their goals by our civil rights.

The shooter in Ohio is an Elizabeth Warren fan, which means the media will focus far more on the El Paso shooter. But the El Paso shooter, who is very anti-immigration and believes the country is under invasion, also has a significant degree of concern about ecology and the environment. Neither of them fit within standard boxes of politics.

Unfortunately, the media is so used to putting everything in R and D boxes and defaulting to blame Trump stories that reporters are trying to force the stories into standard boxes and are willing to discard or downplay inconvenient facts that prevent standard narrative building.

This is a bad thing for them to do because it makes it way easier to amplify claims of bias against the media. Likewise, it gives both sides partisan talking points to avoid dealing with the larger issues involved.​

Perhaps the largest issues is just what a lousy press we have.

 

And how are you going to fix the problem even if you DO blame the shooters? Most of the assassins make it clear the shooting is a suicide for them.

AS I said you'd have to have been quite proactive say about the time of birth to solve the problem it just isn't something government can do much about with out going full bore authoritarian and 200 dead a year is a far smaller price to pay than a few thousand imprisoned because some bureaucrat thought they might do something awful

I've met a number of American Libertarians -- in fact, I gave a talk about ten years ago to several Libertarian Party groups in California. Lovely people, a bit idealistic, but not crazy. (With one exception: in Sacramento there was a fellow in the audience who was against all traffic laws, stop lights etc. But he had the gleam of madness in his eyes.)

Now I would bet that if you actually pinned down one of these folks, you would find they meant something like this: IF we had a strict Libertarian Republic -- no welfare of any sort, in other words, including no free education, no emergency free health care -- and IF we had a lengthy residence period before you could claim citizenship -- and IF we had strict and effective law-enforcement for proper crimes (initiatiation-of-force crimes, not selling the leaves of a plant or anything derived from plants) -- THEN we could have Open Borders, because we would not be bringing in anything but employable, law-abiding, self-supporting people.

It reminds me of that hopeful saying, If we had some eggs, we could have ham and eggs, if we had some ham.
