New York, is increasingly becoming a shadow of its former self. The taxes and regulations are high, and New York has ranked 50th out of 50 on the CATO Freedom in the 50 States ranking, having the worst regulatory policy out of all states. (https://www.freedominthe50states.org/overall/new-york)

This is the same pattern of mass migration we are seeing across the United States...people are fleeing from leftist control states.

The far left wanted Cynthia Nixon to oust Cuomo, and she is even worse. She does have principles and isn't corrupt, I'll give her that, but she would want single-payer in NY, and universal rent control... which would be a disaster.

Why would NYC want single payer? DeBlasio promises FREE healthcare to anyone in NYC. Both coasts of a once great America have fallen and now with footholds in IL, MN, and CO it is easy to get a picture of what is to come.

“between July 2017 and July 2018, the Empire State lost 180,306 people and gained only 131,746 new residents. A difference of 48,560 abandoned New York — the biggest decrease of any state in the US.”.........

you don't think this is an issue?

I live in New York. Its a left-wing fantasy land. It has the most extremist pro-abortion laws in the nation. Now they have passed a law giving illegal aliens driver's licenses. New York Cities
population continues to grow, but upstate New York is losing population because of high taxes and left-wings rules. I'd leave too but my children and grandchildren live here.

The taxes and regulations too. It's just hard to create here. The amount of job opportunities if New York, slashed taxes and regulations, would be booming. We'll have to see if minimum wage laws have negative job effects, which I expect they will.

I Snake Pliskened from NY over a decade ago.

I spent the previous decade before I vamoosed incarcerated on the penal colony of Long Island.

We got gone, tripled our household income, and halved our expenses.

The people who stay in NY are like the frogs in the pot who slowly get boiled to death rather than just jump out of the pot.

Do you have any idea the tax revenue impact that .25% has?

I've lived there (twice) but have been long gone, multiple decades. The taxing authorities are truly insane there, and are driving people of all political persuasions out with their 'squeeze 'em for another buck' mentality. People are actually having to provide proof that they have severed ties with NY, or they will attempt to tax all income, regardless where it was earned.

New York is a perfect example of what happens when the liberal elite establish themselves as the ruling political class of their plantation. It's the tyranny of few who irrevocably erode the freedom of the citizens until all that is left is dependence and blight. Which is exactly what the smug elite expect of their unwashed. Of their deplorables. It's no different now then when they ran the plantations of the south. In the minds of those who "run" or "own" the plantation, the unwashed should be exactly as they imagine them to be, and managed so they don't get all uppity and upset their carefully cultivated rice bowls....

For folks like Cynthia.. rent control is just another moniker for dependence on the cheap. You become glued to the shackles of your rentship. That isn't a life, it's servitude. And its exactly what democrats in NY want.

My wife is a doctor, and, when her malpractice insurance premiums hit $180,000/year on Long Island, that was when we hit the ejector button. The lawyers were running the asylum, and it was only going to get worse.

We moved to the Midwest, and her malpractice is $20,000/year(tort reform state) and her hospital corp pays it.

So right there I got a $180,000/yr salary for being a stay-at-home dad.

.25 spread out over a fairly good sized state with a total population of about 19.5 million people is not too significant.

It's not just a matter of population. Incomewise, it's the high-earners(high taxpayers) that are leaving, and it's the moochers that are taking their place, attracted by the sweet safety cushion that NY politicians are rapidly turning into a comfy hammock for the freeloaders.

When your givers are replaced by takers, that's when you're really in trouble.
