New York State just made really late term abortion legal and threw big celebrations like they had won the Super Bowl.

Of course abortion up to 24 weeks, for any reason, was already allowed in the state but that wasn't good enough.

The new law makes it much easier if a woman decides she wants to abort after 24 weeks.

And there's a host of reasons why she might choose to do so. Maybe she finds her life circumstances have radically changed while she is in the midst of her pregnancy.
In New York City, I wouldn't totally write off the possibility of a woman having an abortion for career reasons, like when a new job opportunity unexpectedly materializes and she decides maybe it's better to put off motherhood for another few years.

It should be emphasized women could already have an abortion for verified health related reasons after 24 weeks. This new law makes it much easier for her to do so.

The new law also allows other medical professionals, such as nurses or midwives, to perform abortions.

State Assembly Representative Nicole Malliotakis criticized the law: "We need to be honest with the public and say that this bill does not simply codify Roe v. Wade... what this bill does is expand abortion up to birth and the third trimester."

Why the **** would ANY woman wait 24 weeks before she has an abortion?

You really have a poor opinion of women........

She might not have realized she was pregnant (often because she is morbidly obese, but that's not always the case).

Her boyfriend might have dumped her, she might have lost her job, there are all sorts of different reasons.
One Australian couple decided to abort at 28 weeks because they found out their fetus had a deformed left hand.

Josie Cunningham almost got an abortion at 18 weeks to get a spot on Big Brother, which she thought would be her big break.
(she later revealed she couldn't go through with it at the last moment after she felt movement in there)

Obesity reduces fertility so very very uncommon and usually they are more delighted than upset
Which more usually applies in the first few months! Have you ANY EVIDENCE that it applies to late term abortions?
Oooooh! You found ONE case out of how many worldwide?? As for Josie - o not confuse bad advertising with, well anything.......

    That's very wishful thinking.

You know there have been less common cases of skinny women being pregnant and not realizing it until very late into the pregnancy. It just so happened that the baby and uterus were positioned in a certain way inside the body so the bump wasn't really visible.

This teen didn't discover she was pregnant until 38 weeks:

Funny how a fetus is "not a person, has no rights"

Then why does killing a pregnant women, result in double homicide? One of those "Oh, but that's different" cases?

I wonder if we're going to start seeing cases of women from other states getting prosecuted for travelling to New York to get an abortion.

[the fetus will be considered a resident of the state wherein it was conceived, and thus under state jurisdiction, and this wouldn't be covered by Roe vs Wade since it's so late into the pregnancy]

Regardless of why, the state of NY just made it legal to kill babies.

Remember, they don't consider them "babies"

And of all the places around the world that allow late term abortion, how many see out of control “baby murder”?
Besides post viability abortion will only be allowed in certain specified circumstances

Well, it happens a lot more often than multiple gun spree killings (at least in America).
So it depends if you consider 12 or so thousand a year to be "out of control".
Although I'm sure it's a lot more common in China...

Yea, as long as we only kill 30 or 40 (8 or 9 month old) babies per year it’s no big deal.

.,,because homicide is a state crime and states can determine who is a person

In those state laws, persons that provide abortions are exempt from those homicide laws.

    Oh, ok...
So if nothing has changed then what are they celebrating?
If nothing has changed then why did they go to the trouble of lighting up their bridges and World Trade Center 1 with pink lights?
Seems like an awful lot of commotion to celebrate “nothing has changed”

I know it happens but it is VERY rare and the chances of the woman then going “ooops I am pregnant and due tomorrow so I will have an abortion” are what?

    China is state ordered
Now ANY evidence any of those late term abortions are for “frivolous” reasons ie non Medical?

Kermit Gosnell alone was convicted of 3 counts of first degree murder and 21 felony counts of late term abortions with “hundreds of other cases of late term abortions reported but not pursued”
That’s just one doctor in one city that was willing to risk doing illegal late term abortions, so apparently the demand is there, and now that it’s legal to kill your 9 month old baby it’s going to be an open season for killing unborn children.

XOh you know silly women. When In the ninth month a healthy woman a aborts a healthy fetus because it makes her look fat. (Sarcasm alert) Or perhaps it doesn’t happen unless a dire emergency? My friend had to face a painful decision when they discovered the fetus had its brain outside its skull and would die upon birth

Since medical complications can and do result in the deaths of pregnant mothers up until the moment of giving birth, there needs to a process in which that
    birth can be terminated.

If every person who is against allowing this will sign a document that they will allow themselves to be killed if they force a pregnant mother to carry to term and that results in the mother's death, then we have a deal ...

    No? Didn't think so.

Dishonest hyperbole....here is what the legislation did:
"Under the rights guaranteed by Roe v. Wade and New York law, all women have the right to an abortion at any time in their first 24 weeks of pregnancy.
After 24 weeks, exceptions can be made under federal law when a woman's life or health is at risk. But the 1970 New York law made exceptions only when a woman's life is at risk.
The Reproductive Health Act changes New York's law to permit abortions after 24 weeks in case where a woman's life or health would be threatened by continuing the pregnancy."

So you're insulted that something was celebrated as much as the Sacred Super Bowl ?

    :)

I like collecting questions that you never answer so here's another:

You stated "" "In New York City, I wouldn't totally write off the possibility of a woman having an abortion for career reasons, like when a new job opportunity unexpectedly materializes and she decides maybe it's better to put off motherhood for another few years.""

WHY did you single out New York? That really is an odd thing to do.....HOW are women different in New York???

Uh, ya, duh, when someone commits a crime they pay for it....we know that and you just proved it ...proved it with the Old Trite Worn Out , did I say OLD story that every Anti-Choicers trots out BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIND A NEWER STORY that actually relates to abortion......IF it happens as much as much as you say, all this illegal stuff, then WHY can't you find NEWER, more timely, more relevant examples???
