New Zealand has decreed jail sentences up to 14 years for possessing or sharing copies of the Tarrant mosque shooting video. Several people have already been arrested under this new rule.

This law does not require the person to express support of the shooter in any way to be arrested. Just to download, watch or share the material is a crime, and can get you the full prison sentence.

    Thoughts?

The New Zealanders are going to be running around in circles like stomped idiots for a good long while, unfortunately, and I feel sorry for them. They're rushing now toward grabbing all the weapons that people have to defend themselves, and after that's accomplished, criminals of all varieties, terrorist and otherwise, will rejoice!

But, as an AMERICAN, I am a believer in FREE SPEECH -- totally. I believe that anybody has the right to say anything, share any video or image, and make any comment -- WITHOUT CENSORSHIP! The only limitation should be that in line with the prohibition about "shouting 'FIRE' in a crowded theater", etc.

Thus, if some jihadi wants to post videos of ISIS creeps beheading people, they should be able to do that! And if neo-Nazis want to post videos of big "Heil Hitler" rallies and marches, they should be able to do that! It may all make some of us want to PUKE, but remember that censorship, however 'mild', always brings with it the death of freedom!

I think it's ridiculous... 14 years....pft make it a $500 fine or something but jail time... that's absurd

    I voted:
*No, but expressing support for the murderer should be, but I understand why that government of NZ would make sharing the video a crime. It is to limit a copycat incident.
