Another mass shooting in Florida. Apparently two groups of people argued, and then settled the argument with gunfire.

Nine people shot and injured on Broadwalk in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD — Near the end of the Memorial Day weekend, nine people were shot and injured a shooting on the Broadwalk in Hollywood, a police spokesperson said.

A dispute between two groups ended in gunfire about 6:45 p.m. Monday, said spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi. One suspect was in custody, and police were searching for a second suspect, she said.

The injured were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Bettineschi said. The ages of the injured were not released.

"A dispute between two groups..." so thats what the kids are calling it now. What, is 'gang violence' politically incorrect?

our local news in Cincinnati just reported it, and I read the story linked above. No information about the shooters or whether it was gang related

Maybe it was a turf dispute between the Shriners and the Lions Club...

How do you know they were gangs? Hollywood, FL is not known for gang activity, especially the beach area where this happened. Its where families go on the weekends. One of the victims was 65 yr old, and another was 1 yr old

Make light of it if you must. I don't really care who they were, the problem is that these incidents are way too common theses days. In the old days disputes were settled in the parking lots with bare knuckles, but now everyone is armed and ready to use their guns to settle arguments and innocent bystanders get hurt / killed.

Guns arent new. People were armed in the olden days too. Tho it is true that more people are resulting to using their guns more than they used to, and it is alarming.

But you mentioned before 'this isn't an area known for gangs'. What point were you trying to make? That it thus prolly wasnt gangs? ...or that gangs are prolly moving into areas they werent a problem in before?

You might have noticed that crime in general, violent, nonviolent, gun and nongun are on the rise nationwide. Are you suggesting guns are the cause?

There is a heck of a lot more guns now than before.

You said it was a gang shooting, which is possible, so I pointed out that Hollywood beach is not known for gangs. Its known as a family hangout with restaurants and a boardwalk.

Crime was on a rise starting from 2020, but the situation is getting better, except for the mass shootings. Are guns the cause? I wouldn't say they are the cause, but they certainly make these incidents more dangerous. I think most people would agree there would not be 9 victims (mostly innocent bystanders) if these guys had used their fists as opposed to guns.

Maybe it would vex you too if someone you knew was one of the bystanders who catch bullets in a situation like that

Theres also more people. Cant find 'guns per capita' statistics that go back very far, but I doubt it has changed a whole lot since 100 or 200 years ago, when hunting was how many people ate every day. Something else has changed, and given that all crime, not just gun crime is on the rise, seems like guns arent the likely culprit. Even if we could magic wand them all away (it didn't work for drugs, guns arent any different), whatever problem(s) is causing more people to kill eachother will remain, and they'll find other ways to do it.

What we do know with a high degree of certainty was that there were multiple people shot. Noy stabbed. Not hit with rotten eggs. Not beaned with cantaloupes.

    Shot.

    With bullets.

    From guns.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n un-shot.

    Sounds like gangs.

And since you are reporting on gang violence now could I direct your attention to the non white gun violence in Chicago?

People in urban areas don't carry guns for hunting, - obviously.

Guns are easier than ever to get, and everyone has the right to stand their ground in disputes, so when there is an argument, the guns come out and people get shot. Back in the day disputes were settled in different ways.

You already made it clear these incidents don't bother you one bit, so you might as well make fun of them as well.

People in rural areas dont carry guns for hunting either, except for when they're hunting. And while theres more people actually carrying guns in rural areas, theres less of them shooting eachother.

So its not the guns causing it.

I don't think you are hearing what people are saying, because I clearly said guns are not the sole cause for violence.

Are there more people carrying guns in rural areas? I don't know, but I do know people in urban areas carry them in case they need to shoot people, not raccoons or snakes, and it should be obvious confrontations are likely to happen where there are more people to confront, or be confronted by.

More gang violence. Looks like there needs to be a serious crackdown on gang activity.

Based on per capita numbers, you are more likely to get shot in a rural area than a city.

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/map-gun-death-rates-lower-cities-than-rural-counties-rcna81462#:~:text=Gun death rates are consistently,in the journal JAMA Surgery.

On the average, rural dwellers carry twice as much per capita than city dwellers.

Do you suppose that in the "old days" the solution you outlined was somehow better? Is it your position that you are worried because you feel like now you feel like you need to be armed, but you are worried you aren't proficient enough that you'd put innocent bystanders at risk?
